5 Fast Facts on the Javanese Cat
If you’re asking yourself, very quietly, what is a Javanese, then you’re not alone. The Javanese, however, is not some exotic coffee bean or a destination island in Southeast Asia, but a cat.
Here are five other fast facts about the Javanese cat you probably didn't know.
#1 Origins Unknown
While the Javanese is not from Java (the Indonesian island, not the computer programing language), her origins are unknown. The Javanese is thought to be an off-shoot breed of the Balinese, since they both have similar markings. What can be confirmed is that the Javanese is an Oriental breed with semi-long hair.
#2 Low-Maintenance Grooming
If you’re hankering for one of those fancy cats with the long hair but really don’t have the time to spend grooming, then the Javanese just might be the cat for you. Dubbed the "lazy man’s longhair," their coats seem to be tangle-free and they need only occasional combing and bathing, which is good news all around.
Think about it, we don’t know where they originated, they have glamorous locks, and they are elegant and refined. In fact, some people might be tricked into thinking this kitty is fragile. She’s not. The Javanese is actually extremely strong and muscular, able to perform all kinds of kitty acrobatics. They’re also great at jumping.
#4 A Regular Einstein
This smart kitty is able to open doors, drawers, and will greet you at the door when you return home. So playtime and activities are a must. We like toy mice hidden around the house for them to find as a favorite game.
#5 Multiple Personalities
The Javanese is a breed renowned for personality traits linked to the colors and patterns. For instance, the tortie Javanese has been described as Lucille Ball in cat form. Which says a lot! Crazy, fun, but perhaps not for everyone. The red and cream points are the most laid back and like to always how you how much they love you. And the Lynx points are quite regal and dignified in nature (unless you end up with the monkey or squirrel kind…) yet love to play and entertain.
So there you have it. Some fun and interesting facts about a cat breed you probably didn’t know existed.
