Animal Shelter Uses Comic-Con Buzz to Highlight Adoptable Superheroes
Comic-book fans and fantasy fanatics wait all year long to score limited edition issues of their favorite series, meet their industry idols, and connect with other comic enthusiasts at Comic Con in San Diego. And one local animal shelter took the big and buzzworthy opening of the festival to highlight its own superhero dogs.
The Helen Woodward Animal Center invaded Comic Con and made an attempt to bring attention to adoptable dogs. The center hosted its own PAW-MICON Convention a week earlier and dressed some of its biggest adoptable stars in comic-book style in hopes of attracting potential pet parents.
The staff set up comic-book backdrops for photos and decked out their four-legged friends in cool costumes. Visitors were able to take photos with characters including “Bark Kent” (aka Superdog), "Woof Vader," from The Empire Barks Back, “Rodd Bark,” from Game of Bones and “The PAW-nisher.”
The goal of the event was to raise awareness that anyone can be a superhero if they decide to adopt an animal in need.
This is officially the best thing we’ve seen all day. Lots of luck to the cosplay pups. We hope they all find incredible homes that are worthy of their awesome powers.
