One pet Internet meme sensation rises to stardom while another one gets wiped out.
Any human celebrity will tell you it’s all about showbiz.
The newest Internet meme sensation is Ray Charles, the blind 5-month old golden retriever.
According to Today.com, Ray was adopted by his family after hearing a breeder was going to have him killed because of his condition. Like many pet parents do, Ray’s created a Facebook page for his fans and the rest, as they say, is history.
Thanks no doubt, to the publicity he’s gotten on Today, Ray’s Facebook page now has over 35,000 fans.
“At the time I didn’t think anything of it,” his dad, Andrew Fales, told Today.com. “I never in a million years would’ve thought it would take off from there.”
Although Ray is blind, he does most things any other puppy likes to do such as play, nap, snuggle and chew. The only difference is that he uses his sense of smell, rather than his eyes, to follow his pet parents around.
On the other side of the world in New Zealand, authorities there have dealt with an urban artist who illegally painted a likeness of the famous Grumpy Cat on a water tower, by painting over the “graffiti.”
The water tower is unsightly, according to some people quoted in the publication stuff.co.nz. Watercare, the company that owns the tower, says it cannot make a distinction between art and graffiti.
"The cat picture might be cute to some members of the public, but to others it might be horrible," a spokesperson for the company told a reporter.
Hmm. Grumpy Cat horrible? Maybe they should ask the 800,000+ fans of the Grumpy Cat Facebook page, we thought it was a pretty talented likeness.
Editor’s Note: Photo of Ray Charles the dog is from his Facebook page.
