After 7 months of life, my male GSD decided he would prefer starving himself rather than eat dry dog food. For years I switched from Nutro to Merrick regular and then their Whole Earth. I would mix these dry foods with can dog food. He would eat if we coaxed him and he ALWAYS had diarrhea and stomach upset. About a year ago I decided to put him on a grain free diet. I had him on Taste of the Wild mixed with either Evo 95% or Wellness 95%. Again, he ate if coaxed, but at least now his digestive issues were gone. I previously compared Orijen's ingredients to TOTW and they seemed so similar that I could not justify paying more for Orijen. However, 2 weeks ago I tried the Orijen Adult dry and the Regional Red. My GSD loves this stuff, ESPECIALLY the Regional Red. He will even eat it dry. So I give him dry Orijen in the morning and Evo 95% or Wellness 95% mixed with the dry Orijen at night. After 4 years we finally have a dog that is happy to eat. No more coaxing, no more digestive issues and no more scratching! The ingredients might look similar to other grain free foods but are obviously much better in the Orijen if my picky eater likes it!

I've been using orijen dry food for over a year for my three large dogs, rotating between the regular adult, the fish formula, and the regional red formulas. Dogs have done very well on all formulas until my most recent batch of regional red when they all developed severe diarrhea.

Finally after a few days, I switched them to the bag of Orijen regular that I had, and the digestive distress cleared up within a couple of feedings.

I contacted Orijen with my problem and the bags lot number, and they finally replied two weeks later saying the food tested fine. So apparently its safe, but my dogs are suddenly completely unable to tolerate the regional red. This food is expensive, so it was financially painful to throw away most of a 29# bag.

Dogs have continued to do well on the Orijen regular adult formula and the fish formula so I have continued to use those.

Comments about Orijen Regional Red 80/20 Dry Dog Food:

I have been feeding my Boston Orijen since I brought him home from the Breeder 4 years ago. He started out on the puppy, then went to the fish and now he eats Regional Red. My little guys suffers from poultry and grain sensitivity and when we relocated to FL, he had a terrible reaction to the type of grass down here. Because of this he stopped eating and we needed to find something to entice him to his bowl. We switched to the Regional Red and he has not ignored a meal since. As with most high protein foods, stools can be a bit soft (which isn't a bad thing), I mix in just a small spoon of organic pumpkin puree to help firm him up, as needed. Yes this is a more expensive brand, but it's worth it to know that my dog is getting some of the highest quality ingredients out there. He is beautiful, his coat shinny and he is full of life. Just like with humans, put good in, get good out. Why not have the same for your pet?

My GSD is a picky eater. So I started reviewing dog foods for the best rated nutrition. I figured if he was going to barely eat the recommended amount, it better be GOOD quality. But when I tried Orijen Regional Red, he loved it!
