I'm a BzzAgent and received a 4# bag of Hill's Pet Science Diet Ideal Balance for free to try for my service dog, Toby. Obviously Toby is very important to me, so I want to take very good care of him. I checked out Ideal Balance's ingredients and purposes and I'm very impressed! To start him out slowly (a rapid change can cause digestive issues), I used Ideal Balance as training treats. First I wanted to see what value treat this was to Toby. Some training requires very little in the way of rewards, while other training requires a very high value treat to encourage him. Toby considers this very high value. So ie, it's very yummy to him, in fact using Ideal Balance, I taught him the 'I do, I do' (in the pic below), give me 5, give me 10 and wave. Since it has quality ingredients, and less 'fillers' he needs a lot less food to maintain his weight, and therefore has less poop. Very high value to me! :)They have chicken and brown rice for puppies up to 1 year, adults 1-6 years and mature, 7 years and up. That's my only con, that it's only available in chicken. My other dog is an 18 year old Border Collie mix, who can't eat chicken as it severely upsets his digestive system (ie very bad diarrhea). I feed him lamb & rice dry dog food, mixed with canned dog food and hot water, so that it's soft enough to not cause him discomfort in chewing his meals. It is unusual for a dog of his size to live this long, perhaps because I try to feed him healthy food. I am hoping that Hill's Pet will make a lamb and rice later? Hopefully not too much later, after all, he is 18.I found a rebate form on their website, ([@] and search for Ideal Balance rebate) to receive a refund on their 4# bag (if purchased before 12/31/11) so what do you have to lose by trying it? Currently (as of 12/1/11) Pet Food Direct has the 4# bag on sale with free shipping! I would recommend this to a friend, in fact I have already recommended it to many, along with a link to the rebate.

I let Zoey try the food and she liked it. First she had it dry and then she had it with a little water on it to make a gravy and she still loved it. This is the dog food that my husband and I were looking for. Zoey is a picky eater but not with this brand of food so yes this food gets a thumb up. Zoey has also tried the snacks. The sweet potato and carrot chips she does not care for but the oatmeal and cranberry she loved, we did not get to try the jerky strips prehaps they are on the way but overall she is a happy dog. Thanks

So healthy for them and they love the taste!

We have fed our 4-legged canine, hairy children Science Diet for over 20 years. We love that Science Diet cares about the ingredients they add to their food and we love that our hairy kids love the taste. Coco, age 12, and Scooter, age 7, have never had another food other than Science Diet (both dry and canned) in their lives and we believe this is why they are so happy and healthy! Keep up the good work, All! We're lovin' it!

    Good food my dog loves

Comments about Hill's Ideal Balance Natural Chicken & Brown Rice Adult Recipe Dry Dog Food:

My boxer really enjoys this food. The kibbles are easy enough for him to grab, he doesn't eat too fast or slow. His coat looks nice and I have no complaints with him on this food as far as stool or gas, very regular and solid. I enjoy having a food that has the research behind it by using Science Diet/Hills/Ideal Balance brand. The only downside to me is the price, but it's comparable to any other quality food.

    Fantastic food

Comments about Hill's Ideal Balance Natural Chicken & Brown Rice Adult Recipe Dry Dog Food:

I decided to try Science Diet for my dogs after switching my indoor cats to Science Diet Indoor Cat food. My husband told me if I couldn't get the litter box odor under control that they were all going outside. I was feeding the a holistic brand that was supposed to reduce litterbox odor. While I was still mixing their old food with the Science Diet I started noticing a lot less waste in the box, their stools were much firmer and the odor was reduced drastically. After a week I stopped mixing and went to Science Diet only. The results were amazing! I decided if it made that big of a difference in such a short time with my cats that I would try the dog food. Again, in less than a week the changes were amazing! My 9 month old pointer mix has NEVER had a firm stool making scooping a pain! For the 1st time since I brought her home at the age of 8 weeks she finally has a firm, scoopable stool. Same story with my 4 month old Malti-Pom. Both of these dogs have been to the vet numerous times and the vet could never find anything wrong. I just ordered a bag for my outside dogs (healthy mobility) and a bag of Advanced Fitness for my foster dogs. Thanks Science Diet for making such a great, healthy product for my furbabies! I almost forgot to mention that they also love the taste!

My little picky-eater dachshund, Moco, absolutely loves this food. We're on his second bag now and he hasn't turned his nose up at it once. Heck, I don't even have to mix in canned food!

Before switching to Ideal Balance, he was on a raw freeze-dried/dehydrated product that simply got far too expensive to feed him. Before that, he was on Natural Balance and he'd turn his nose up at it about once per 6lb bag. But he loves Ideal Balance, and I love that it's affordably priced, healthy nutrition for him.
