I feed this food to my two Border Terriers and one Cocker Spaniel. They LOVE it! I previously was feeding California Natural and switched. I have one dog with Canine Epileptoid Cramping Disorder and another with Gall Bladder disease who is on chronic meds. Both dogs would have episodes monthly but in the three months on this food they have not had any off days aat all. The bites are tiny which is great for my dogs as they are all under 18lbs each. It has to be more flavorful as my dogs go crazy over it and my boy with CECD would often go off his food for up to three days at a time, but not anymore!

The Nature's Variety demonstrator was in my local natural pet food store and was giving out samples. I wanted to get my dogs off Science Diet, so I grabbed a couple of samples and took them home for my dogs to try. They loved it and they are very picky.

However, I noticed that here was increased stool output and my dogs were always looking for something to eat. My dogs are usually not like that. One of my dogs could easily eat 6 cups of this food a day if I let her and she is only 40 lbs. I feel like not much of this food is absorbed by the body. They ate much more of this and didn't even gain weight and they were always going to the bathroom.

I recently switched to Nature's Planet Organics and they love it! It's very pricy, but they eat less of it, there is less stool output, and they are not going around always looking for something to eat. Therefore, the cost is about the same as feeding Prairie, and Nature's Planet is much better.

Nature's Variety is not to be trusted

Comments about Nature's Variety Prairie Canine Chicken Meal & Brown Rice Dry Food:

I previously fed my dog both Nature's Variety Prairie Chicken & Rice as well as the Beef & Barley. Notified the company that I had problems with the Beef & Barley variety, and the company simply brushed my concerns aside, after registering 2 complaints. My dog developed severe gastro-intestinal problems shortly thereafter that subsequently led to his untimely demise at 8 yrs old. Company did eventually recall the Beef & Barley version in July 2012 & it still has not reappeared 4 months later. I feel that if the company had been honest & up front with me, my beloved dog could have been saved. They try to portrary themselves as devoted to the health & well being of your pet, but I believe that all they care about is profits.

Comments about Nature's Variety Prairie Canine Chicken Meal & Brown Rice Dry Food:

Sonny, a shepherd mix, has a very sensitive stomach -- I can't give him table scraps other than eggs or a tiny amount of chicken. He does very well on all the Prairie dry food, and he loves it. I add a little water to it, for easier chewing, as he's an older dog.
