In the late 1990's one of my schnauzers (Stormy) was plagued with calcium oxylate bladder stones. After his third surgery, my vet researched diets for him and decided IVD Modified was the best for preventing the stones. Her practice sold a competing brand, but her research indicated the competitor's food was more likely to cause pancreatitis in his breed. After I switched his food, he never had bladder stones again. The food was safe to feed both my schnauzers, which made life easier for me. I noticed my white schnauzer's (Muffin) tear stains disappeared when she started eating the IVD/Royal Canin food. When IVD became Royal Canin, the quality remained. Other companies seemed to have recall after recall, but their food was safe. Both dogs thrived and lived to the ripe old age of 16. I met someone who had many dogs from the same breeder as my Stormy and he was amazed that my dog lived so long. He told me the oldest their dogs ever made was 14 because they were plagued with kidney issues. I believe those two extra years were curtesy of their Royal Canin diet.

When my schnauzers passed in 2012, I adopted a Yorkie mix (Benji) from the local shelter. I tried feeding the brand the shelter recommended, a well known premium brand, but he picked out certain pieces of the kibble to eat and spit the rest on the floor. I'd been buying my dog food at the vet for over a decade so it was a shock to see how many choices there were at the pet store. I discovered Royal Canin breed specific display and was thrilled. I bought a small bag to try and my dog loved it. The kibble was the right size for his tiny mouth and he must have liked the flavor because he didn't spit anything out. His coat improved, he built muscle, he gained 3 lbs (he was underweight when I adopted him), and he seemed happy.

I trust the company based on my experience with the Rx formula, the lack of recalls, the condition and health of my dogs past and present. I like that the formulas are created specific to medical and/or breed needs.

Yorkshire terrier

Comments about Royal Canin Yorkshire Terrier (28) Dry Dog Food:

I started buying the puppy food when my Callie was 8 weeks old (2004). She loved it and thrived on it. I also had two minature Schnauzer whom I fed the schnauzer brand at the time. I lived in Kansas City and you had diverse temperature outside. The doggies had great builds and we're never sick. I kept my baby and my ex took the Schnauzers. I moved to Ar. where the humidity was a lot different and winters weren't as brutal giving my baby different temperatures to deal with. She graduated to adult Royal Canin and is still on it to this day. I've tried other dog foods thinking she might like it better or for a change. I mixed the new dog food in with her food and she would pick out her pieces and leave the rest. She is about 5 lbs of total attitude, healthy with no issues . I regard this to the nutritional v as lue of her Royal Canin.

My Yorkies Love This Food!

By Deneen

from Schererville, IN, United States

Comments about Royal Canin Yorkshire Terrier (28) Dry Dog Food:

I have been feeding my finicky Yorkies Royal Canin Yorkshire Terrier formulas for the start. They first were feed the puppy formula and then graduated to the adult formula. I am happy that there are extra Omegas to help their coat condition. I wanted to switch to a grain, soy, corn free food, but my Yorkies didn't want to eat it. Back to Royal Canin, which the eat immediately without any problem. However, I do wish that Chicken was the first ingredient - or that you would go back to the old ingredient formula.
