How is this medication given? Separate one product tube from the others once removing it from the box. Hold the tube with the notched end pointing up and away from the face and body. Cut off the narrow end at the notches with scissors which will open the tube. Place the open end of the tube over the dog and use it or your hand to part his/her hair so that you can see the skin. Apply liquid on the skin in one spot on your dogs back between the shoulder blades until the tube is empty. Make sure the treated area on your dogs skin is completely dry before bathing or swimming. This usually takes about 24 hours. Dosing is usually based on your dogs body weight. One monthly treatment protects your dog for 30 days. It is usually recommended to apply this medication monthly on all twelve months of the year but always follow your veterinarians instructions.
How does this medication work? This medication contains 2 active ingredients: Fipronil and cyphenothrin.
Fipronil interacts wit3h gamma aminobutyric acid (GABA)-gated and glutamate-gated chloride channels in the nervous systems of target species which blocks nerve transmission. This results in eventual death of fleas, chewing lice, brown dog ticks, deer ticks, American dog ticks, and lone star ticks. Cyphenothrin is a pyrethroid. It works by interfering with sodium transport in insect nerve cells. This causes rapid paralysis and eventual death of any affected ectoparsites.
