Product Information

What is Onsior? This is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory(NSAID) medication that is used to treat post-surgical pain and inflammation and orthopedic pain short-term in cats. It can also be used longer term in dogs to treat chronic osteoarthritis and other orthopedic conditions. This is a COX-2 selective NSAID that targets the COX-2 enzymes that are responsible for pain and inflammation in the body while sparing the COX-1 enzymes that are responsible for the normal functioning of the gastrointestinal tract, kidneys, and platelets.

Onsior is available in tablets that can be given to your pet as directed by your veterinarian. An injectable form of this medication is also available. It can be given by your veterinarian as necessary.

What are the benefits?

1. Effective and gentle enough to use in both dogs and cats.
2. COXIB NSAID that targets COX-2 enzymes responsible for pain and inflammation while sparing COX-1 enzymes that keep your pet’s GI tract, kidneys, and platelets functioning properly.
3. COX-1 sparing makes Onsior a safe option for managing your pet’s pain and inflammation.
4. Easy to administer- tablets for cats are flavored and smaller in size. Tablets for dogs contain beef flavoring.
5. Several strengths (5-40 mg) are available to accommodate your dog’s body weight.
6. An injectable formulation is available so your veterinarian can give this as needed.

What results can I expect?

1. Your cat should feel more comfortable after surgery or during times of short-term orthopedic pain.

How does it work? Robenacoxib(the active ingredient in Onsior) is an NSAID medication that specifically targets COX-2 enzymes that are responsible for pain and inflammation in your pet’s body. Since Onsior is COX-2 selective, it is able to do its job while sparing COX-1 enzymes in the body that are responsible for normal gastrointestinal, kidney, and platelet function. This maximizes positive effects and minimizes possible side effects of NSAID medications such as gastrointestinal bleeding. This medication is tissue selective which helps to identify and target painful sites of inflammation in the body. Onsior moves through the bloodstream quickly allowing it to remain at the specific points of inflammation that need relief from pain and swelling.

What form(s) does it come in? Onsior is available as an oral, beef-flavored tablet.
