Product Information

Use the AlphaTRAK Lancet Device to obtain blood samples in order to monitor your pet’s diabetes. This device helps you to collect a small blood sample from your diabetic dog or cat in order to closely monitor his/her blood glucose(sugar) levels as directed by your veterinarian. The AlphaTRAK Lancet Device can be used with the AlphaTRAK Blood Glucose Monitoring System. It allows you to obtain blood samples at home in between veterinary visits. It is also commonly used by many veterinarians!

What is the AlphaTRAK Lancet Device? This is a device that is used to help you to collect capillary blood samples from your diabetic pet in order to monitor his/her blood glucose (sugar) levels as instructed by your veterinarian. It also allows you to adjust the depth of puncture to accommodate multiple testing sites. A clear cap is also included and can be used in place of the depth setting cap so that you can visualize the testing site better. You will also need to purchase AlphaTrak Lancets to use this device correctly. These are sold separately. This product includes a Lancing Pen (1), an adjustable Depth Cap(1), a Clear Cap(1), and detailed instructions on how to use this product correctly.

What are the benefits?

1. Easy to follow instructions.
2. Device helps you to obtain a capillary blood sample from your diabetic pet at home once properly trained by your veterinarian.
3. Allows you to adjust the depth of puncture to accommodate multiple testing sites.
Who is it for: The AlphaTRAK Lancet Device is used to obtain blood samples from diabetic dogs and cats.

How does it work? The AlphaTRAK Lancet Device is easy to use. Make sure you read all instructions carefully before use. Do not share lancets or lancet devices. Use each lancet only one time to prevent spread of infection and to make blood collection more comfortable for your pet.

Have all of the supplies that you need to obtain a blood sample ready. You will need the lancet device and a lancet. Make sure your hands are clean and dry before you begin.

Remove the lancet device cap with a twisting motion and insert a new lancet into the holder. Push until the lancet comes to a complete stop inside the device. Remove the lancet’s safety tab by twisting it until it becomes loose. Keep the safety tab for lancet disposal. Replace the lancet device cap after the safety tab has been removed. Do not make contact with the needle. Check the cap to make sure it is fully seated on the device. Now you are ready to collect a capillary blood sample from your pet.

Select the depth of penetration by rotating the depth adjustment cap. Start with the medium depth setting first and adjust the depth as necessary. If the medium setting does not produce enough blood, try a deeper setting. If the medium depth setting produces enough blood, try a more shallow depth to see if you can obtain enough blood but with less discomfort. The clear cap may be used in place of the depth setting cap in order to help you visualize the testing site better. Putting greater pressure on the lancing device can also help to increase the puncture depth when using the clear cap.

Pull the charger to reset the device. You may hear a click. Make sure the testing site is clean and dry prior to testing and select a comfortable and well-lit location for you and your pet. Warm and massage the test site. This should help to encourage good blood flow.

Hold the lancing device firmly with the depth adjustment cap, or the clear cap, against the selected testing site. Push the release button to obtain a drop of blood. Bring the AlphaTRAK meter and test strip to the blood drop and gently touch only one side of the test strip to the blood sample. Make sure the sample touches the thin side of the test strip in the black rectangular area. Capillary action will pull the sample into the test strip.

After a capillary blood sample has been obtained, remove the lancing device cap with a twisting motion. Place the lancet safety tab on a hard surface in order to prevent an accidental needle stick. Carefully stick the lancet tip into the safety tab that was previously saved before the test was run. Press the release button to allow access to the covered lancet. Pull the lancet straight out of the holder and dispose of the lancet in an appropriate sharps container.

The entire device can be washed with mild detergent and water. The device may also be cleaned with isopropyl alcohol (available in the USA) or a solution of 1 part bleach and 10 parts water. The device should be rinsed thoroughly and dried between uses.

Contact your veterinarian or the manufacturer if you have further questions regarding the proper use of this device.

Uses: The AlphaTRAK Lancet Device is used along with AlphaTRAK lancets in order to obtain a capillary blood sample from your diabetic cat or dog in order to test his/her blood sugar (glucose) levels as directed by your veterinarian. Individual lancets are sold separately.

Precautions: Never share a lancet or lancing device. Always use a new sterile lancet. Lancets are for single use only. This prevents the risk of infection and minimizes discomfort. Do not use this device or attempt blood glucose testing on your diabetic pet until your veterinarian shows you how to obtain a blood sample properly. At home blood glucose (sugar) testing is not a substitution for regular veterinary care so make sure you work closely with your veterinarian to carefully monitor and treat your diabetic pet.

Storage: Store the AlphaTRAK Lancet Device at room temperature out of reach from children and pets. Make sure you dispose of lancets and sharps properly. Do not discard in the regular trash. Consult your local health department and/or your veterinarian regarding proper disposal.
