What is Effitix Topical Solution for Dogs? This is a medication that you apply to your dogs skin(topically) one a month in order to prevent and repel fleas, ticks, and mosquitoes. Effitix can also kill lice, aids in the control of mites, and repels and prevents blood feeding by biting flies.
Uses:Effitix Topical Solution for Dogs kills and repels ticks, fleas, and mosquitoes. It also works to kill lice and works to control mites. It can also repel and prevent blood feeding by biting flies. This medication is effective against the following ticks: Rhipicephalus sanguineus, Dermacentor variabilis, Amblyomma americanum, Ixodes scapularis which have the potential to cause illness in your dog.
Formulated for: Dogs that are at least 12 weeks of age.
How does this medication work? Effitix contains two active ingredients: Fipronil and Permethrin. Fipronil works on the affected insects central nervous system(CNS) by blocking GABA channels. Blocking these channels causes excitation of the insects nervous system which results in convulsions, paralysis, and death. Permethrin also causes a disruption in the normal nerve function of the targeted insect. This causes tremors and also results in eventual death of the insect. Effitix works quickly to kill fleas, ticks, mosquitoes, and other targeted parasites on your dog.
What results can I expect? Effitix Topical Solution for Dogs starts to kill adult fleas quickly (within 6 hours). It lasts for one month. One monthly treatment also kills ticks, biting lice, and chewing lice for at least a month. Effitix works to kill biting flies and mosquitoes plus it prevents them from returning. One treatment remains effective for up to 4 weeks (one month). Mites can also be controlled with this medication. Effitix works fast killing 90% of fleas within 6 hours and 98% of 4 species of ticks within 9 days.
What Form(s) does Effitix Topical Solution for Dogs come in? This is a liquid solution that you apply topically(on the skin) once a month. It comes in 4 sizes to accommodate your dogs body weight. Effitix is sold in boxes containing 3 or 6 monthly doses.
Generic Name: Fipronil plus Permethrin (Common Drug Name).
Common Brand Name: Effitix Topical Solution for Dogs (Virbac) ).
Dose and Administration: Effitix should be used one a month or as directed. Wait at least 30 days before re-application. Take one applicator out of the packaging immediately prior to use. Hold the applicator with the cap upward and take the cap off. Invert the cap and push it down to break the seal on the tube. Once the tube has been opened, hold your dog and part his/her hair until you can see the skin. The exact placement of medication depends on your dogs body weight. Use the following guidelines to apply Effitix correctly: 1. Small dogs (up to 22.9 lbs.): Apply the entire contents of the tube on the skin at one site between the shoulder blades. 2. For medium dogs (23 to 44.9 lbs.) or large dogs (45 to 88.9 lbs.): Distribute Effitix solution evenly on your dogs skin to three spots. Start by applying the medication between the shoulder blades and continue on a second and third spot further down the back. Empty the entire contents of the tube on your dogs skin. 3. For extra-large dogs (89 to 132 lbs.): Apply all contents of the tube evenly to four spots on your dogs skin starting on the back near the shoulder blades and continuing to spots two, three, and four further down the back.
Do not apply superficially on dogs hair. Try to make direct contact with the dogs skin. Make sure the solution is dry before making contact with the skin.

Possible Side Effects: Side effects are rare but are always possible when using any pesticide product. Some dogs may experience some temporary irritation at the site of application. If you notice irritation in the spot(s) where Effitix was applied, bathe your dog with mild soap or shampoo and rinse with generous amounts of warm water. If signs of sensitivity are not resolving or if your dog displays any usual symptoms after an application, contact your veterinarian immediately for further instructions. If your dog has an unusual reaction to the initial application, do not re-apply until you consult with your veterinarian.
Drug and Food Interactions: Certain medications can interact with pesticides. Do not use this medication and talk to your veterinarian before use if your dog is currently receiving another flea/tick product. Tell your veterinarian about any medications, vitamins, or supplements your dog is taking prior to applying Effitix to makes sure it is safe to apply.
Precautions: Do not use Effitix on dogs under 12 weeks of age. Dogs may experience some temporary irritation at the site of product application. Consult with a veterinarian and use Effitix cautiously on medicated, debilitated, aged, pregnant/nursing dogs, or animals known to be sensitive to pesticides.
Storage: Store Effitix in its original packaging at room temperature away from children and pets.
