Comments about Dave's Naturally Healthy Grain Free Beef & Chicken Dinner Canned Cat Food:

I picked up a few varieties of this brand canned food from a local pet food store last week, and just saw that PFD has it in stock now. I really like it for many reasons. Of course, my two cats have not been eating it long enough to say how it is for health, but they really like it, and I like it. Yes, I actually tried it myself, and it's edible, tastes much like canned beef stew. The texture is a pate, with a small amount of gravy-like gel in the can (not much, but enough that the cats really enjoy the "juicy" part, licking that off the top before digging into the pate). One 5.5 ounce can is halved between two cats at brunch time as a special meal, as they also get a high quality grain free dry kibble at night. They never finish the canned food in one sitting. I may switch to the 3 ounce can, hopefully it would be the perfect size for two cats to split for brunch with a side of kibbles. Certainly a 3 ounce can would be plenty for one cat, as this is a dense food. I suspect it is very filling, and one 5.5 ounce can (or two 3 ounce cans) per day might be fine as a complete diet for an older sedentary cat. One of my cats is overweight and senior, the other is a very active 1 year old who stays thin. The difference is their activity level. I'd call this a good food for either, as the fat cat gets full fast on it so she doesn't overeat, the skinny cat then finishes both dishes throughout the day, usually. I also like that it's a small relatively local (New England) company, and I can pick it up locally if I run out between PFD orders. I like that Dave has a facebook page, with videos of himself on it, I feel "safer" buying this guy's cat foods. I believe they are made in NY state, however. The ingredients are good, minimal junk added, the cats both love it, and I tasted it myself, and didn't gag, always a plus! I wish it was a bit less expensive, I try to keep cat food at under a dollar per 5.5 ounce can, and this food exceeds that budget, BUT, the ingredients are really good, and I like the company so far, no major red flags. I'll probably buy the 3 ounce cans and see how that works out.
