Product Information

Treat common infections in your pet with Rilexine. Rilexine is an antibiotic medication that is highly effective in the treatment of common skin and urinary tract infections. Chewable tablets are available in 3 sizes making it easy to treat your pet’s infection accurately.

Rilexine is: an antibiotic that FDA-approved and works to treat skin infections (pyoderma), urinary tract infections, and other susceptible infections.

What are the benefits? 1.Rilexine helps kill bacteria that are responsible for skin, urinary tract infections, and other susceptible infections; 2.Tablets are chewable and flavored so most pets take them readily; 3.Tablets are scored and available in 3 sizes making it easier to give an accurate dose.

What outcomes can be expected? Rilexine should help to kill susceptible bacteria primarily of the skin and urinary tract. Once your pet’s infections has been treated, he/she should start to feel better. Always finish all of the medication that your veterinarian prescribes. If your pet starts to feel better before the end of treatment, your pet still needs to finish all of the medication.

Who is it for: Rilexine is labeled to treat susceptible infections in dogs.

How is it given?

1. Exact dosing varies based on your pet’s needs and his/her body weight.
2. Always follow your veterinarian’s specific instructions regarding the use of Rilexine.
3. Rilexine can be given with or without food.
4. Most veterinarians prescribe Rilexine twice a day for 28 days but this is not a concrete rule.
5. Contact your veterinarian if you have questions regarding the use of Rilexine.

How does it work?Rilexine works by stopping nucleopeptide synthesis of the bacterial wall. This results in the death of susceptible bacteria of the urinary tract, skin (ex. pyoderma, folliculitis, and cellulitis), and other areas of the body.

Rilexine is available as:a chewable, scored tablet with liver flavoring. Tablets are available in 150 mg, 300 mg, and 600 mg strengths.

Generic Name:Cephalexin.

Common Brand Name:Rilexine Chewable Tablets (Virbac).

Dose and Administration:Your veterinarian will give you directions on how to use this medication so always listen to him/her. You can give Rilexine with or without food. The dosing frequency on the label is twice a day for 28 days. The dosage is based on your pet’s body weight. This may vary so always follow your veterinarian’s directions. If you forget to give a dose of Rilexine, give it as soon as you remember. If you miss a dose and it is time for the next dose, skip the one you missed and resume a regular dosing schedule.

Uses: Rilexine is an antibiotic so it kills susceptible bacteria that are responsible for skin infections (pyoderma) caused by certain strains of Staphylococcus pseudointermedius. Rilexine can also treat urinary tract infections and other susceptible bacterial infections.

Storage:Store at room temperature in a safe place that is out of reach from children and pets.

Possible Side Effects:>Diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting may occur with Rilexine. If your pet is truly allergic to Rilexine, he/she may experience swelling, hives, vomiting, and/or collapse. Always contact your veterinarian he/she acts unusual in any way after receiving Rilexine.

Precautions:Do not give Rilexine to your pet if he/she is hypersensitive to penicillin, cephalexin, other cephalosporins, or other beta-lactam antibiotics. Rilexine cannot be given to rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, or gerbils. If your pet has kidney dysfunction, the Rilexine dosage should be reduced since it is excreted primarily through the kidneys. Tell your veterinarian if your pet is pregnant or lactating. If you have an allergy to antimicrobials like penicillin, avoid handling Rilexine.

Drug and Food Interactions:Some drug interactions may occur with aminoglycosides, amphotericin B, chloramphenicol, and oral anticoagulants(blood thinners).
