Product Information

Resolve your dog’s infection by using Simplicef as prescribed by your veterinarian.

Simplicef is: an oral antibiotic that your veterinarian may prescribe in order to treat a wide range of infections, especially skin, urinary tract, bone, and respiratory tract infections.

What are the benefits?

1.Treats infections in multiple organs of the body;2.Broad-spectrum;3.Requires dosing only once a day.

    What outcomes can be expected?

Simplicef is absorbed from the intestinal tract and is circulated to many susceptible tissues of the body via the blood stream. The entire course Simplicef must be completed and this medication needs to be given exactly as directed for multiple days in a row. If doses are missed or the entire treatment regimen is not completed, infection can recur or worsen.

Who is it for: Simplicef is labeled for dogs.

    How is it given?

    1. Give medication by mouth exactly as prescribed by your veterinarian. Simplicef may need to be given with food.

    2. Finish the entire course of antibiotics even if your pet starts feeling better sooner.

    3. Call your veterinarian if you have any questions regarding the use of Simplicef.

    4. Only give Simplicef to the pet it has been prescribed for.

How does it work? Simplicef is an antibiotic that kills bacteria by halting the bacteria's ability to build a cell wall. Simplicef is effective against gram-positive and negative bacteria.

Simplicef is available as: a tablet.

Generic Name:Cefpodoxime proxetil (a cephalosporin) (Common Drug Name)

    Common Brand Name:Simplicef

Dose and Administration:Give all medication exactly as directed by your veterinarian. Simplicef should be given orally (by mouth) with food.

If you miss a dose, give it as soon as you remember but never give 2 doses at once. Make sure you give Simplicef until it is finished or infection can return or worsen.

Call your veterinarian if you have any questions about how to give Simplicef correctly. Do not give this medication to any pets other than the animal it has been prescribed for.

Uses:Simplicef is an antibiotic that is used to treat susceptible gram-positive and gram-negative infections.

Storage:Keep Simplicef at room temperature away from children and pets.

Possible Side Effects: Simplicef is generally well-tolerated. Decrease appetite and gastrointestinal side effects (vomiting/diarrhea) may occur.

Some pets may experience an allergic reaction to Simplicef. Symptoms of this include facial swelling, hives, scratching, sudden onset of diarrhea, vomiting, shock, and pale gums.

    Other side effects are possible.

If your pet appears ill after receiving Simplicef, call your veterinarian immediately.

Precautions:Do not give Simplicef to animals who are allergic to the active ingredients. Do not give to pets that are allergic to penicillins either.

Do not use Simplicef in pregnant or lactating animals (female animals nursing their young) if possible since cephalosporins can cross to the fetus and pass in the milk.

Use cautiously in animals with seizures, epilepsy, or kidney disease.

Some cephalosporins may affect some tests for urine glucose and may cause a false-positive glucose test result with some brands of urine test strips.

Drug and Food Interactions:Tell your veterinarian about any other medications or supplements your pet is taking prior to giving Simplicef. Some interactions may occur with aminoglycosides (gentamicin, neomycin) or amphotericin B, anticoagulants (blood thinners, such as heparin or warfarin), and probenicid, since interactions may occur. Other interactions are possible.

A prescription from your veterinarian is required to purchase Simplicef.
