My male cat was hospitalized for a urinary tract blockage. I had to find a new food for him that did not contain products which could be harmful to his condition. He did not like any of the many different foods I tried. I found Royal Canin wet and dry. He LOVES this food. It is beneficial for his health and he seems to love the flavor. It has been 2 years and he is healthier than ever.

I had high hopes for this product for my cats. I have two older ones and one of them, Tiger, just found to have urinary problems. The other is a small female calico. At first, they ate a little, but now I end up throwing it away. They sniff it and turn away. I read all the reviews before purchasing and thought sure they would gobble it up. It may be because I made the switch to suddenly and completely, but I need to try something else to get them to eat.[...]

4 cats won't eat the loaf

Comments about Royal Canin Veterinary Diets Royal Canin Veterinary Diet Feline Urinary SO in Gel Canned Cat Food:

One guy, a Meezer-blend rescue has oxalate crystals in bladder, going for surgery soon. Vet gave me SO loaf cans but not one will eat this...the sick one ate a few bites and walked away, despite being obviously hungry. However, they do like the crunchies version...but that does not provide fluid, and if everyone does not drink enough it would be disastrous...very anxious! Plan to try the gravy version...they all like gravy-food, with chicken or turkey as the main ingredient. The loaf has pork, I believe, as higher amount...and fish is in there...my guys don't like fish! Sick one is 5 yo, as are the 2 girls, and one chubbo is 10 years old...even he only barely touched the loaf food and wanted to bury it...and we all know what that means. ;)

My cat Anubis had urinary blockage issues that turned into emergencies not once, but twice. Thank goodness that my vet recommended switching him to this diet! He has been blockage free for almost 2 years with no signs of return. He's doing amazing and in ideal health. Thank you Royal Canin!

Urinary SO

Comments about Royal Canin Veterinary Diets Royal Canin Veterinary Diet Feline Urinary SO in Gel Canned Cat Food:

This is a very good product, it has saved two of my cat's from premature death. A few complaints: PRICE, AVAILABILITY (Prescription only), and Flavors. I have 5 rescue cats and two of them are on Urinary SO, it is extremely expensive to maintain these two special need cats with this food. It does however work very well. The necessity of a Prescription is also a hassle with busy life schedules.

Comments about Royal Canin Veterinary Diets Royal Canin Veterinary Diet Feline Urinary SO in Gel Canned Cat Food:

Like any cat food, whether your cat will eat it or not is mostly a matter of personal taste. My main aim in this review is to explain the "gel" part. Perhaps another reviewer already did that, but in scrolling through, I didn't spot it. I was concerned the gel would be aspic or some similar matrix, but I discovered upon opening a can that that is not the case at all. It's just regular pâté, and obviously of good quality. There's something that looks like fat accumulation in each can, but I'm guessing that's the gel. My cat has chronic issues with crystal and stone formation, so she will have to be on a veterinary diet for the rest of her life. The frustrating thing is that she doesn't even want to touch most urinary diet foods; she can't stand Hill's SD or CD canned foods for some reason. I got a script from my vet for the Royal Canin SO dry and wet foods, and my cat will actually eat both types each day. However, I have to coax her into eating the canned food by sprinkling Purina FortiFlora on it, and that doesn't work every time. Now, if someone could just make urinary diet treats -- my kingdom for some of those!
