Poor Edie suffers from Chronic Pancreatitis and not that long ago we were having flare ups left and right. I tried changing her to a low fat diet, giving her pepcid, etc. but she would still have flare ups. It was time to switch to a prescription diet and after researching the other brands, I thought that Royal Canin not only had the best reviews, but also the healthiest ingredients (I try to stay away from byproducts). Since switching to RC we have not had ANY episodes! She loves the taste and the fact that she now gets to eat lunch. :)

The only downfall is that because it is so low in fat, you have to feed your dog double the amount or more to make up for it. For instance Edie, a 20 lb. Welsh Terrier went from 1 cup a day to 2.5 cups on the Royal Canin. So, it's about $35 every 3 weeks but Pet Food Direct makes it so easy, we have it set to automatically send a new bag every 3 weeks and because we are in Southern California, it comes the next day!

It works well for us because Edie is small, but if you have a bigger dog just beware that you will run out even faster and this may not financially be the best option for you. That being said, I could not be happier with Royal Canin as my dog loves the taste and is healthier than ever!

Why the formula had changed?

Changing formulas is affecting the health of my dog and I don't appreciate it.

Saved My Sheltie

Comments about Royal Canin Veterinary Diets Royal Canin Veterinary Diet Canine Gastrointestinal Low Fat LF Dry Dog Food:

Leo one of my Shelties totally stopped eating and drinking. Took him to the vet and found he had elevated liver enzyme counts, enlarged gall bladder and other intestinal issues. We tried various drugs and nothing seemed to help. He was off and on for about a month before he ended up spending a weekend at the local vet hospital. When he came out he started on the canned version and was the only thing he would eat. Within 3 days he graduated to the dry version. Within 30 days of being on this formula his levels were almost back to normal and we stopped all the drugs. He has been on it for 5 months and just had his 6 month checkup and his levels are where they should be and his xray showed no abnormal liver or gall bladder shapes. Yes it is a little higher priced than pet store generic dog food but Leo is alive and doing fine.

Total transformation!!

Comments about Royal Canin Veterinary Diets Royal Canin Veterinary Diet Canine Gastrointestinal Low Fat LF Dry Dog Food:

I have a very healthy 17 Aussie/Shepherd mix. She is the love of my life. She has slowly been losing weight and within last few weeks began to have significant GI upset. She stopped interacting and even stopped meeting me at the door when I arrive home from work ( something she has done every day since she was a puppy). She was at the Vet office for 5 days. Because of her age, I thought this could be the end. Then my vet started her on Royal Canin and within a few days her symptoms started to resolve. The next day after bringing her home she started meeting me at the door again. Thanks for giving my dog her smile back!

Stopped the GI issues and my dogs love it.

Comments about Royal Canin Veterinary Diets Royal Canin Veterinary Diet Canine Gastrointestinal Low Fat LF Dry Dog Food:

When my Jack Russel mix started having GI issues her vet changed her to this food and the issues went away immediately. Once they were gone I started mixing her old food with the RC to move her back and the GI issues came back. (Her old food was high quality food, not cheap.) So I put her back on RC and again the problems cleared up at once. Her brother, a MinPin/German Short Hair Pointer mix, started getting picky about his food, he was on the same food I used to feed her, and started to refuse to eat without being hand fed. So I moved him to this formula and he ate it all up immediately. Now this is what they eat, both love it and no more GI issues.
