Product Details

I simply must find out why my pet seems so sluggish. So I go to the experts. Hills Prescription Diet k/d Canine Renal Health dog food is formulated by veterinarians and nutritionists to support your dogs kidney health. Kidneys are very important because they remove waste substances from the blood, and maintain the normal balance of fluid and minerals within the body. There are many causes for kidney, or renal, disease that result in a variety of uncomfortable and life threatening symptoms for your dog. The disease may develop either suddenly or gradually, and may a result from other diseases, changes in health, hereditary tendencies, and nutritional factors.

Prescription Diet k/d Canine Renal Health therapeutic food for dogs is clinically proven to extend and improve quality of life in dogs. It contains reduced phosphorus to help maintain healthy kidney function, as well as reduced levels of protein to help alleviate kidney workload. Reduced sodium helps maintain normal blood pressure. Blood flow to the kidneys is boosted by increased levels of omega-3 fatty acids, while increased levels of B-complex vitamins compensate for vitamin losses in the urine.

Since being diagnosed with kidney disease, my 12-year-old Lab had been eating Science Diet Mature Adult Large Breed food along with 3 capsules a day of Azodyl. The Azodyl was inconvenient and expensive, but more importantly, my Lab began to resist eating at all, knowing the Azodyl was hidden in his food. Any time he discovered that capsule hidden in a treat, he would spit it out, necessitating shoving it down his throat. I finally turned to Prescription Diet K/D and what a difference! Jake still gets prescription anti-inflammatory and pain pills in his food, but now he has no resistance to eating. While expensive, this food is definitely worth it because now I have a happy, healthy dog again.

It may be great stuff, but the #1 and #2 ingredients are brewer's rice, and pork fat. Other ingredients are inexpensive as well. Sure it may be "just the right mix" but the actual cost of the ingredients in a 35 lb bag amounts to a pittance compared to the cost. Surely they (Hills) have recouped their R&D costs by now, and ought to lower the price.

Comments about Hill's Prescription Diet k/d Canine Dry Food:

I give my active 8 year old dog 2 servings a day; 3/4 cup dry with 2 tablespoon of the wet mixed with water. She has made a 360 turnaround in her health since starting this diet. Her coat has returned to a thick shine, her labs results have been dropping to normal range, no more vomiting and stools are normal. This food has saved my dogs life! She loves it and can't wait for chow time. Slightly pricey but worth every penny for how well my dog is now. Easy to order with RX from Vet and shipping is free right to your door. Less trips to the Vets.

Pet will not eat this food

      By RainysDad

      from Sun Valley, ID, USA

Comments about Hill's Prescription Diet k/d Canine Dry Food:

For the first two weeks our 9yo Weimaraner would eat the kibbles then over the next two weeks she stopped eating it except when she was extremely hungry. The hunger appears to have caused her to misbehave like she was 6 months old. Last night she ate an avocado ( her first avocado in her life) that would have required a step ladder to get at. Yesterday she ate the seat in my Volvo that she has ridden in for years. Tried the canned today and she ate that. It is 3 times as expensive as the dry which is twice as expensive as regular dog food. Will try supplementing the dry with chicken stock to see if that works. On the positive side, after 2.5 months her kidney numbers are in the normal range which was the goal.

The product is great in quality, pet love the food, but the price is too high for people on a limited income.

Comments about Hill's Prescription Diet k/d Canine Dry Food:

The product is great in quality and my pet really liked it; but the cost is too expensive for people on a limited income. Purchase of this needed food is a burden on my budget and requires buying less food for me and my wife.
