Since being diagnosed with kidney disease, my 12-year-old Lab had been eating Science Diet Mature Adult Large Breed food along with 3 capsules a day of Azodyl. The Azodyl was inconvenient and expensive, but more importantly, my Lab began to resist eating at all, knowing the Azodyl was hidden in his food. Any time he discovered that capsule hidden in a treat, he would spit it out, necessitating shoving it down his throat. I finally turned to Prescription Diet K/D and what a difference! Jake still gets prescription anti-inflammatory and pain pills in his food, but now he has no resistance to eating. While expensive, this food is definitely worth it because now I have a happy, healthy dog again.

It may be great stuff, but the #1 and #2 ingredients are brewer's rice, and pork fat. Other ingredients are inexpensive as well. Sure it may be "just the right mix" but the actual cost of the ingredients in a 35 lb bag amounts to a pittance compared to the cost. Surely they (Hills) have recouped their R&D costs by now, and ought to lower the price.

Comments about Hill's Prescription Diet k/d Canine Dry Food:

Our yellow lab presented renal issues a couple of years ago. The vet prescribed Hills k/d and told us to avoid feeding her meat. We were skeptical that she'd take to the low protein, vegetarian k/d recipe, but we've been pleasantly surprised. She likes the diet. Then again, she is a lab. And we've monitored her since with semi-annual sonograms and she's nearly fully recovered.

I'm grateful Chloe has a diet that has maintained her health!

Comments about Hill's Prescription Diet k/d Canine Dry Food:

She gets bored with it at times, must be the flavor? I vary the texture by serving moistened or crunchy. I'm pretty strict that she adhere to her diet & has worked great for her.

Comments about Hill's Prescription Diet k/d Canine Dry Food:

My dog has been on Hill's since he was a little pup. He has really enjoyed the food and eats hardily. He's an old dog now and Hill's has always provided a food that fits his needs. I always recommend Hill's to my friends and family.
