I simply must find out why my pet seems so sluggish. So I go to the experts. Hills Prescription Diet k/d Canine Renal Health dog food is formulated by veterinarians and nutritionists to support your dogs kidney health. Kidneys are very important because they remove waste substances from the blood, and maintain the normal balance of fluid and minerals within the body. There are many causes for kidney, or renal, disease that result in a variety of uncomfortable and life threatening symptoms for your dog. The disease may develop either suddenly or gradually, and may a result from other diseases, changes in health, hereditary tendencies, and nutritional factors.

Since being diagnosed with kidney disease, my 12-year-old Lab had been eating Science Diet Mature Adult Large Breed food along with 3 capsules a day of Azodyl. The Azodyl was inconvenient and expensive, but more importantly, my Lab began to resist eating at all, knowing the Azodyl was hidden in his food. Any time he discovered that capsule hidden in a treat, he would spit it out, necessitating shoving it down his throat. I finally turned to Prescription Diet K/D and what a difference! Jake still gets prescription anti-inflammatory and pain pills in his food, but now he has no resistance to eating. While expensive, this food is definitely worth it because now I have a happy, healthy dog again.

It may be great stuff, but the #1 and #2 ingredients are brewer's rice, and pork fat. Other ingredients are inexpensive as well. Sure it may be "just the right mix" but the actual cost of the ingredients in a 35 lb bag amounts to a pittance compared to the cost. Surely they (Hills) have recouped their R&D costs by now, and ought to lower the price.

Much to my amazement my lab likes the kd.

By damama

from California

Comments about Hill's Prescription Diet k/d Canine Dry Food:

I had been feeding my labs sweet potato and salmon chow with ground beef or chicken. My other lab is allergic to rice, corn, peas, and a number of other things in most dog chows. Thus the sweet potato and salmon diet for both. I suspect it is too much protein. My smaller lab seems to love the kd wet and dry.

Prescription Diet by Vet

By txgato

Comments about Hill's Prescription Diet k/d Canine Dry Food:

My 14 year old Corgi was having issues, my vet indicated he has starting to have kidney failure and recommended Hills KD. My boy will eat anything so that is not an issue. He seems to be putting on some weight and isn't having as many peeing accidents, It is kinda expensive ~ so watch for sales and use those coupons! Not sure if it is going to help but only time will tell if it extends his life span and helps him with quality of life ~ its what we will do for our boy.

Great food

Comments about Hill's Prescription Diet k/d Canine Dry Food:

This food has made our dog feel so much better. Chance is 13 1/2 years old and his numbers have really improved and it's because of the food. It's expensive but our dogs are worth it. The cost really isn't to bad because it lasts a long time and our dogs are worth it. Mine like the dry and eat it very well.

Comments about Hill's Prescription Diet k/d Canine Dry Food:

My oldest has been on Kd for close to 1 yr now. Sometimes he eats it right up and others times not so much. I'm really glad that the dry good is small bites since he's older it makes it easier for him to eat.
