Since being diagnosed with kidney disease, my 12-year-old Lab had been eating Science Diet Mature Adult Large Breed food along with 3 capsules a day of Azodyl. The Azodyl was inconvenient and expensive, but more importantly, my Lab began to resist eating at all, knowing the Azodyl was hidden in his food. Any time he discovered that capsule hidden in a treat, he would spit it out, necessitating shoving it down his throat. I finally turned to Prescription Diet K/D and what a difference! Jake still gets prescription anti-inflammatory and pain pills in his food, but now he has no resistance to eating. While expensive, this food is definitely worth it because now I have a happy, healthy dog again.

It may be great stuff, but the #1 and #2 ingredients are brewer's rice, and pork fat. Other ingredients are inexpensive as well. Sure it may be "just the right mix" but the actual cost of the ingredients in a 35 lb bag amounts to a pittance compared to the cost. Surely they (Hills) have recouped their R&D costs by now, and ought to lower the price.

Comments about Hill's Prescription Diet k/d Canine Dry Food:

OUR 13-YEAR OLD SHELTIE HAS RENAL DISEASE AND REQUIRES K/D TO REDUCE PROTEIN IN HER DIET. OUR PROBLEM IS THAT MOLLY DOES NOT LIKE THE FOOD WHICH MEANS WE HAVE TO ENTICE HER TO EAT WITH TOPPINGS ON THE FOOD.

This product may be saving my pet's life

By mnewman121212

Comments about Hill's Prescription Diet k/d Canine Dry Food:

Hal's urine test indicated early kidney issues. At 9 years old, my Golden Retriever has been on K/D for over a year. His umbers stabilized and recently are getting better. Hal woofs down his food, so evidently he loves it. And most of all, I feel K/D is prolonging his life. He is beautiful and full of energy. Thank you to the people at Hill's.

I love kd, and so do my dogs.

By Jen2605

from South River, NJ

Comments about Hill's Prescription Diet k/d Canine Dry Food:

I started my dogs on kd as soon as I noticed some renal insufficiencies, and it has helped tremendously. I am a vet tech, so I was able to notice the early signs. It has slowed the progression of kidney disease and my dogs love it.
