This pet food was recommended by my vet when my dog was diagnosed with a kidney dysfunction. [...] the manufacturer is sometimes erratic about keeping a steady supply available. Both of my (spoiled) dogs prefer canned food, and my other dog likes this food as well as the dog with the kidney problem does. The vet says any dog her age is fine on that food, so both of them get it. There are not a lot of alternatives for dogs with this diagnosis so it is great to have K/D available.

No other dog food I've seen contains pork so it will be a rare occasion when a dog will like it. They are not exposed to it. He eats the Purina NF formula just fine and it is beef based. After watching my dog starve himself and eating dirt and rocks instead we changed to a home cooked food then to the Purina. Sorry but I don't believe that a lot of thought went into developing this product.

Comments about Hill's Prescription Diet k/d Canine Canned Food:

My Petey was diagnosed with kidney disease. He wasn't eating and losing weight. I feed him the kd dry food with a 3rd of a can of the wet and he likes it. He has put his weight back on. The only downfall I find is the expense.

Comments about Hill's Prescription Diet k/d Canine Canned Food:

I have been very lucky that this food was discovered at a time when I really thought that I might lose my dog due to kidney disease. It has significantly improved her health, given her back her energy, and improved her kidney function. I do find that I need to feed her more than is recommended in order to keep her weight at an acceptable level. Although it's a tad pricey, I'm okay with it knowing that my dog is happier and healthier than she has been in 2 years.
