Hill's Prescription Diet k/d Canine Kidney Care Canned Food is for the Nutritional Management of Dogs with Kidney Disease. There are many causes for kidney disease (also called renal disease) resulting in a variety of uncomfortable and life threatening symptoms for your dog. Kidney disease can be either sudden (acute) or occur gradually (chronic). Hill's Prescription Diet k/d Canine Kidney Care Canned Food is specially formulated by veterinarians to help manage dogs with kidney disease. This pet food was recommended by my vet when my dog was diagnosed with a kidney dysfunction. [...] the manufacturer is sometimes erratic about keeping a steady supply available. Both of my (spoiled) dogs prefer canned food, and my other dog likes this food as well as the dog with the kidney problem does. The vet says any dog her age is fine on that food, so both of them get it. There are not a lot of alternatives for dogs with this diagnosis so it is great to have K/D available.

I am a huge fan of Science Diet products, as they are nutritionally sound and my animals thrive on them. My issue with the k/d is palatability. The consistency and taste do not appeal to any of our animals (including the healthy dog and cats who will eat almost anything), so it's not surprising our geriatric who needs it due to renal issues has to be coerced into eating it. Please consider redesigning the formula and/or or processing method to produce a more palatable product.

    She loves the lamb especially!

Comments about Hill's Prescription Diet k/d Canine Canned Food:

We get the mixed case of lamb and original flavor. And the dry bag as well. It has brought her numbers down and she's doing great! Only thing is the original flavor seems to have changed some ingredients, no more egg whites and also changed texture. She still loves it but I'm wondering why it was changed? It seems more sticky/gooey, then the lamb and what used to be Original flavor.

Warning - main ingredient has changed

    By mmacdavid

Comments about Hill's Prescription Diet k/d Canine Canned Food:

The main ingredient in this was "Egg White," very good for a kidney diet, and that is what I was feeding my dog with Hills Kidney Care "Original" until this week. This week I received a new case of Hills Kidney Care "Original Flavor," and it's main ingredient is "Pork Liver" - not a speck of egg white. I am afraid that my dog will not have as good of results with this completely new food. The can looks virtually identical, but what is inside is completely different!

    Fussy Eater

    By hoagyT

    from Summerville, SC, United States

Comments about Hill's Prescription Diet k/d Canine Canned Food:

6 months ago our Molly, 19 almost 20 years old, had to switch to K/D. It's been interesting getting her to eat, she's always been fussy, the suggestions of tuna liquid and low sodium chicken broth helps. She prefers the chicken and beef stews over the original flavor. We mix a little K/D dry kibble over the top of the wet to give her a little crunch. At her annual checkup, 2 weeks ago, her blood panel showed a vast improvement, our vet said she's seen 12 year old's not doing as well. Molly will be a K/D dog for the rest of her life. Thanks!
