in my cat's renal health. Two years ago 14 y.o. "Mr. Kitty" was diagnosed with kidney disease and placed on Hill's prescription food. At the time of his diagnosis he was losing weight and vomiting every few days. Since switching his food he has maintained his weight and rarely vomits. He is a very happy cat! We were told at the time of his diagnosis that, given the stage of his kidney disease, he could have anywhere from weeks to two years. It is now two years, he is 16 y.o., and doing extremely well. We are so happy to have found this rx. food. I was a little too anxious to switch to the Hill's and did not integrate it slowly enough. Because of that he did have a few rough days. If I were to do it over again, I would integrate the new food into the old very slowly, increasing the Hill's in small increments on a daily basis. We've also learned that he does much better w/just the wet #canned# food. As a kitten, our vet told us dry food was the better option so we pushed that and only gave him a small amount of wet food per day. With the transition to Hill's, we've found that he has much less digestive issues w/the canned food and have eliminated the dry.

I don't like having to have an RX for the food. I faxed a copy of the RX and they held my order till my vet was contacted in which they made her rewrite the RX on their paperwork and then fax it back!
Why did I need an RX in the firstplace????

Keeps my cat alive but he'd love more flavors

By Michaelsmommy

from Undisclosed

Comments about Hill's Prescription Diet k/d with Chicken Feline Canned Food:

My cat can only have KD food. Whether soft or dry, he doesn't prefer the taste over what the other cat gets (hard food or soft). I wish there other flavors or something more gravy like. It's expensive but he's 18 and I'm just happy he's alive.

KD Feline Renal Health

By EmmittSuperStar

from Undisclosed

Comments about Hill's Prescription Diet k/d with Chicken Feline Canned Food:

Cats are finnicky eaters. If your vet recommends feeding the KD Feline Renal Health Chicken canned food to your cat he may not be so keen to eat it. I switched my cat straight from Fancy Feast TenderLiver w/ Chicken to the canned KD (no gradual phasing out of his old food). Before serving it to him, I add a little water to make the consistency of the food a little liquidy. I also heat it up a bit in the microwave (just 3 to 5 seconds) then mix it all up. If water does not work, you may be able to mix it with a bit of broth (veggie, chicken), but ask your vet first before adding the broth. He also prefers to eat 1 to 2 tablespoons about 5 to 7 times a day.

Comments about Hill's Prescription Diet k/d with Chicken Feline Canned Food:

One of our cats got diagnosed with early stage renal insufficiency. The other cat is now on the prescribed k/d diet as well. As of now, they are only eating the k/d dry formula (thank Goodness).
With the plain k/d, our vet suggested adding tsp of strained baby food meat to add flavor. We were hoping the chicken flavored wet food would solve this problem. It has not. Any suggestions?

Our old cat needs a lot of fluids and this food has that. We only give him the hard prescription diet as a treat.

Our 19yr old Princess doesn't like it at all!

By LongTimePetLvr

from Jackson, MS, USA

Comments about Hill's Prescription Diet k/d with Chicken Feline Canned Food:

Our 19-1/2 yr old Princess domestic shorthair has just been diagnosed with Kidney disease. she's lost weight and her labs are high. As a result, she's been put on this food. She loves the dry, but this chicken leaves much to be desired. She tried it the first time and wouldn't go near it again even when we heated it up in the microwave. she favors seafood, so we weren't surprised when she turned her nose up at this one, but for the price and the reason for it, we were hoping she'd eat it. We're hoping she'll like the oceanfish one. As a result, we can't recommend it. Over the years, we've have different dogs and cats that were put on various RX diets for different reasons and when it came to eating them, our animals turned their noses up to them.
