    Product Details

Good old Molly has a sweet personality and she is wonderful company, but she has not been in a very good mood lately. Poor heart health affects your dog's quality of life as well as mood. The food your dog eats plays an important role in his or her overall health and well-being. Hills nutritionists and veterinarians have developed Prescription Diet g/d Canine Dry Food, Early Cardiac Healthy Aging.

Older dogs are at risk for many diseases and require food designed to help reduce nutrient excesses that may be harmful to their system. Reduced phosphorus helps minimize stress on aging kidneys; reduced sodium helps decrease fluid retention and maintain normal blood pressure; reduced protein helps decrease kidney workload; optimal fat levels reduce pancreatic workload; increased levels of omega-3 fatty acids support kidney health. Your pet's heart is the most important organ in the body, and factors such as age or weight may affect its function. Kidneys remove waste substances from the blood and maintain normal balance of fluid and minerals within the body. With Prescription Diet g/d Canine Dry Food, Early Cardiac Healthy Aging, Molly is in for a pick-me-up.

My vet recommended this food and if it prolongs my dog's life then I am all for it. However, this food is only available in 8 pound bags and I use it for one of my fifty pound dogs. This is very expensive. My vet has suggested moving my other 2 dogs onto this food but without larger bags available, it's not financially possible. I see large bags of several Prescription Diet formulas at our vet, but for whatever reason, this one is not available. Why?!

Excellent diet for pets that have cardiac and liver disease. The food is well balanced and has good taste, making it easy to transition to the diet. However, it is very unfortunate that for long term use, only 8.5 lbs bags are available; wishing for the 35 lb bag to return to the market.

Noticed change within a couple weeks

    By lminer

    from Undisclosed

Comments about Hill's Prescription Diet g/d Canine Dry Food:

My 13 year old shih tzu started drinking more water and having accidents, so I took her to the vet. After running several tests, he said it was just her kidneys slowing down and recommended this dog food. There was definitely a difference in her health within a couple of weeks. She isn't drinking as much water and no accidents. The only problem is the kibble is too large for her and she's not fond of the taste. I've tried wetting it down, but she won't have anything to do with it. So now I'm smashing it up and mixing it up into the canned g/d. She likes the canned, but still turns her nose up at the canned/dry mixture, which she will eventually eat when hungry enough. Having to smash it up is kind of pain, but she's worth it, so will keep doing it. I hope Hills will consider making a smaller kibble in this formula.

This is a well formulated product for aging dogs

    By Sawtooth

Comments about Hill's Prescription Diet g/d Canine Dry Food:

This was recommended by our regular vet as a maintenance diet for our 13 year old Yorkie. He has enjoyed good health over a full and active life (now made a little more active by his 2 year old companion!). He and I are both entering later life, which means attention to achieve a healthy diets in the face of diminished physical stamina and activity. Enjoyable nourishment without becoming overweight is our mutual goal.

    Keeps our dog healthy!

Comments about Hill's Prescription Diet g/d Canine Dry Food:

Our dog was originally put on this prescription diet food because she has pancreatitis but our vet says there are so many other health benefits she should live a long life! She is a rat terrier who is 12 years old - don't tell her she still thinks she's a young pup!

Rusty always enjoys the food. He gobbles it up immediately.

Comments about Hill's Prescription Diet g/d Canine Dry Food:

As long as Rusty is happy we are happy. He has never turned away for g/d and enjoys it. G/d has a lot of nourishment for an older dog. Rusty will be 11 this month and he still plays fetch every single day.
