Allergies are very irritating. Itching isnt cute. Indigestion is to be avoided at all costs. That is why I count on Hills Prescription Diet z/d Canine ULTRA Allergen-Free Canine Dry Food for my pets, designed by veterinarians for the diagnosis and nutritional management of food allergy and food intolerance in dogs. Also known as adverse reaction to food, this condition presents potentially serious problems that can result in sensitive or irritated skin, coat and ear conditions or even gastrointestinal upset. Most reactions occur because of an allergy to beef, dairy products or wheat. Prescription Diet z/d Canine ULTRA Allergen-Free food for dogs is formulated with Hill's Hydrolyzed Protein System of highly digestible proteins that minimize the chances of allergic reactions to food. This process breaks down intact animal proteins and virtually eliminates the possibility of an adverse reaction to food. Highly digestible carbohydrates and fats help reduce gastrointestinal workload; while increased omega 3 and 6 fatty acids help nourish the skin. Added antioxidants control cell oxidation and promote a healthy immune system and skin barrier function. For More Info Click Here: www.petfooddirect.com/Brand/Hill's-Prescription-Diet

This food is great. Lulu loves the taste of the canned ZD. I tried giving her the dry but because she is so small the kibbles are too big for her try to chew. Lulu was put on ZD because she tested positive for allergies to wheat, rice, corn, milk, and beef. She has envionmental allergies also but she doesn't scratch near as much as she used to.

Not surprisingly, our female Lab mix has a very sensitive stomach; z/d Ultra is the only thing we've found that she can consistently eat without getting sick (and even then it's hardly foolproof, as anything from a Cheez-It to a leaf in the yard can cause problems for days). We didn't know she had this issue when we got her, and I won't give her up just because she has a bad stomach, but it's not much fun and z/d is the only option we know of that offers any relief. That said, if we could find a less-expensive brand for her, we'd switch in a heartbeat. Honestly I find the price on this stuff ridiculous. I know that you have to pay for quality and I appreciate that it's available, but spending over $1,000 a year on dog food is beyond anything we ever expected. Incidentally, having to spend that much on food has reduced the amount that we've been able to budget towards other veterinary care, which sucks but is our reality. I thought that signing up for the website and printing out coupons would help, but it turns out that's only a one-time offer and is basically useless. Anyway- I would only recommend this as a last-ditch option for someone in our situation, but the cost would keep me from recommending it for any other reason. I have no problem with companies making a profit, but I get a pit in my stomach every month when I have to go pick up another bag, and I hope at some point Hills will either drop the price tag a bit or someone else will come out with an option that's viable for our dog.

This product helps with Allergies

By Juliw

Comments about Hill's Prescription Diet z/d Ultra Allergen-Free Canine Dry Food:

Our dog had skin allergies and digestion issues. She was adopted from the shelter and had issues. Our vet recommended this food and it really worked to help with her skin issues and and digestion. It is a little pricey but it is cheaper than having to take her to the vet for medication due to skin or stomach issues!

I use this product because my vet recommends it and my westie has terrible alleries.

Comments about Hill's Prescription Diet z/d Ultra Allergen-Free Canine Dry Food:

Every time I go to a pet store and discuss nutrition and alleries I hear I am feeding my westie the worst possible food. This leaves me with a great deal of confusion because I want the very best for my pet.

Our pup is a new woman!

By Deb14

Comments about Hill's Prescription Diet z/d Ultra Allergen-Free Canine Dry Food:

We battled skin bumps, gnawing at her paws and hinder, scratching her ears, antibiotics, steroids, benadryl, different shampoos, food after food, and finally found a vet that suggested we do a food trial with z/d....before he would refer us to an allergist. Knock on wood, but it has made all the difference in the world for our pup! No more bumps, her coat is silky, she rarely gnaws or scratches. She poops once a day and it is much softer, but vet says that's fine. No allergist for us!
