This is the primary diet for our 18-yr old (soon to be 19) Tonkinese cat who is allergic to many things, including plastic. She tolerates this food very well and has fewer trips to the vet with nausea/vomiting/diarrhea since this has become her mainstay meal. We keep the dry version of Z/D on hand for her as well. The only other food she seems to digest is the A/D version but it is not recommended as a primary diet so it is only offered to her infrequently.

This was prescribed for my cat with Stomatitis which is mouth sores. The canned food actually burned his sores and made them worse. I tried feeding it to my cat who is allergic to chicken. This food contains chicken but is suppose to be formulated so the body does not recognize it as an allergen. My cat was still allergic to it. I have tried both the dry and canned with the same results. I gave an almost full bag of the dry to a friend who's cat was constantly scratching himself. Several weeks on the Z/D diet and the cat is still scratching as much as ever. That is three cats that I know of who were not helped with this cat food.

4 paws up for z/d!!

By jw57

Comments about Hill's Prescription Diet z/d Ultra Allergen-Free Feline Canned Food:

I think maybe my cats should be writing this review. I regularly serve the dry; wet as an occasional treat, once or twice a week. Of course, they prefer the wet. It smells the loudest. At least I dont have to call them to the table! I would appreciate smaller, single serve cans. Sage and Skippy don't like leftovers (even if I put it in the microwave).Smaller cans would eliminate waste. Switching to a total z/d diet has significantly reduced the digestive upset Skippy suffers. Sage is just along for the ride.

Comments about Hill's Prescription Diet z/d Ultra Allergen-Free Feline Canned Food:

This seems to be the only food my cat can handle without getting crystals in his urine and/or vomiting constantly. So that's good, but it's so very expensive!

expensive but it has helped

By Pat14

Comments about Hill's Prescription Diet z/d Ultra Allergen-Free Feline Canned Food:

We tried many different things for our cat's chronic diarrhea. The z/d canned food has been the only treatment that has helped. He seems to like it, especially if we stir bits of the hypoallergenic treats into it. Our only negative would be the cost; it is very expensive and the coupon from your website was only good one time.

Pros

  • Prescribed For Allergies

Cons

  • Pricey / Poor Value
  • Questionabble Ingredients

Best Uses

  • Allergic To Some Foods

Comments about Hill's Prescription Diet z/d Ultra Allergen-Free Feline Canned Food:

My cat likes it well enough. I only use 1/4 can daily. Mostly he eats the dry type of z/d. I think I may try to make him my own version of wet foods with some vet recommended recipes next time.
