I use ByNature Beef daily, it is the preferred tast of my picky boys! They will have Turkey at times. My oldest has diabetes. When I switched from hard food to ByNature, my cat was odd of insulin. I love this food and am thankful that PetFoodDirect continues to sell it, becasue it is hard to find in the stores!!

Can't believe I'm on here again shopping for a limited ingredient canned cat food for my two cats. The OLD formula By Nature canned cat food was the answer - firm and solid stools of the right color, consistency, and odor within a day of starting it. So then what does By Nature do? They change the formula. So now my cats have eggy-smelling bowel movements again that (at the very least) 'mush' more readily in the box when stepped on in the process of covering them up, stick to the pooper scooper to where I'm having to wash it several times a day or, on especially bad days, stick to their rear-ends until they drop onto my floor some distance from the litter box or come out like mashed pumpkin to where they're not even formed enough to do that. This new formula is completely different from the one that once resolved my cats' IBS. (Please see pictures.) The color and texture has changed. Added fillers, fatty gravy, and less food (to where I can no longer split one can between 2 cats), and an increase in price simultaneous with this reduction in food. And my cats' IBS symptoms are back with a vengeance. So I'm done with By Nature cat food since it is now no better than the food you can buy at the supermarket.

Comments about By Nature Natural 95% Meat Beef and Liver Formula Canned Cat Food:

By Nature beef used to be my cats' favorite as an easy to eat pate. They won't touch it now that it is being produced with a course texture. Looking for a new alternative for my diabetic cat.

Comments about By Nature Natural 95% Meat Beef and Liver Formula Canned Cat Food:

I discovered the By Nature brand about a year ago when my cats were struggling with some chronic stool/GI issues. I suspected food allergies at the time, or perhaps too many carbs and fillers in most of the foods out there, but within 24 hours of trying this food 2 years of poop problems were solved. So up until a few months ago I would have given this food 100 stars - that is how dramatic the difference was in their stools.

But a couple of months ago I placed an order for the By Nature brand canned cat food and everything had changed. For one, the size and shape of the cans had changed - what once was a 6.5oz can was now a 5.5oz can, and 24 (smaller) cans now came in a case instead of 12, which I find deceptive. In these new smaller cans, a 'block' of meat that doesn't even meet the sides of the can slides around on top of some fatty gravy. And when my husband actually WEIGHED the 'block' of meat alone on a postal scale - and keep in mind that he was unable to remove all of the gravy - the 'block' of meat alone weighed only a pathetic 4.4 ounces. So basically over 1 ounce of this newer formula is now gravy and you're really only getting a pathetic 4.4 ounces of food, not the 5.5 ounces advertised. So splitting one can between 2 cats at mealtime is no longer an option, and my only option now is to open another can every couple of days to compensate and refrigerate the leftovers. In the older 6.5oz cans, there was virtually ZERO gravy, just a nice solid chunk of meat.

The color of this newer food has also changed - the meat in these smaller cans is now darker in color than what was found in the larger 6.5oz cans, and it appears 'fattier' as if perhaps a lower quality meat is being used. And when I compared ingredients between cans, there were indeed a few that had changed - more fillers, more salt.

My cats still love the flavor of this newer food, but they loved the original flavor equally as well, and I was buying this brand of food for the health benefits, not necessarily the flavor. And since this change in formula, my cats' stools have regressed. Their stools are much larger again with this change in formula, softer, and they smell more. They are also hungry all the time now, even with my opening a second can at mealtime. Why? More fillers.

Now when I contacted the company about the can-size change, I was told that the change was made due to the cost of metal, that tin was less costly. And when I explained that it was virtually impossible to split one of these cans between 2 cats and still have them feel satified, I was told they were considering coming out with a dog-food sized can in 2013. Huh? A DOG-food sized can for CATS? I find that absurd since cat owners are feeding cats, not dogs, and who wants to be digging cold leftovers out of a large can at mealtime since there will always be cold leftovers when you're feeding cats from a dog-food sized can? Bottom line: I'm very unhappy with the changes. This company appears to be sacrificing quality for profit, and if they continue to cut corners like this, their reputation will continue to suffer.
