Product Information

Many veterinarians prescribe Otomax to help when your pet suffers from ear infections.

Otomax is: a topical ointment that can assist in treating otitis (ear infections) when used as directed by your veterinarian.

What are the benefits?

1.Easy to administer;2.Combination of medications helps to resolve bacterial and yeast ear infection(s);3.Topical steroid also helps reduce inflammation associated with ear infections.

    What outcomes can be expected?

Otomax should help eliminate susceptible bacteria and yeast that can cause your pet’s ear infection(s). Your pet’s symptoms should resolve once the prescribed amount of medication has been applied to your pet’s ears. If Otomax is continued for longer than 7 days, wound healing could be delayed. If your pet’s symptoms are still present after the course of medication has been completed, call your veterinarian for further advice.

Who is it for: Labeled for dogs but has been used in other species including cats.

    How is it given?

1.Use Otomax exactly as directed by your veterinarian.

2.Be sure the infected ear(s) are clean and dry prior to applying medication.

3.Trim excess hair around the affected ear canal(s) prior to using Otomax.

4.Apply the correct quantity of ointment in the ear(s) and massage to spread medication.

5.Call your veterinarian if you have questions regarding the proper use of Otomax.

How does it work? Gentamicin kills bacteria, betamethasone relieves inflammation, and clotrimazole kills yeast that are associated with ear infections.

Otomax is available as: an ointment that is applied to the ears.

Generic Name:Gentamicin and betamethasone with clotrimazole

    Common Brand Name:Otomax

Dose and Administration: Instill Otomax in your pet’s ear(s) exactly as instructed by your veterinarian. Ear(s) should be clean and dry and excess hair around the ear(s) should be trimmed prior to application. Instill the proper amount of ointment in the ear(s) and massage the ear(s) in order to spread Otomax throughout the ear. Give a dose as soon as you remember if one is missed but never double dose. Give Otomax only to the pet it has been prescribed for.

Uses:Otomax is used to treat otitis (ear infections).

Storage:Store at room temperature out of reach from pets and children.

Possible Side Effects: Some pets may experience hearing loss or balance problems while using Otomax but it is usually temporary. Otomax contains a corticosteroid so increased drinking and urination may occur if it is ingested in large quantities. Some pets are truly allergic to Otomax. Immune suppression is possible if Otomax is used for extended periods which may increase the risk of bacterial and fungal infections. Other side effects may occur. Tell your veterinarian immediately if your pet seems sick while Otomax is being given.

Precautions:Animals who are allergic to any ingredients in Otomax should not use it. Animals with a ruptured ear drum should be given Otomax. Working dogs such as police dogs and seeing eye dogs should only be given Otomax with extreme caution since hearing or vestibular (balance) impairment is possible. Premature births have been reported when Otomax was given especially towards the end of pregnancy. Birth defects are possible in dogs, rabbits, and rodents so using Otomax in pregnant females is not recommended.

Drug and Food Interactions: Always speak to your veterinarian about any other medications or supplements your pet is taking prior to starting Otomax. Interactions are possible with corticosteroids and similar antibiotics such as neomycin. Other drug interactions may occur.

A prescription from your veterinarian is required to purchase Otomax.

You must be able to put product into your dogs ears..... If your dog won't allow you to get near his ears, you will have a big problem. It is great for clearing up ear infetions. You need a preciption for this.

Comments about Otomax Ointment For Dogs:

Vet recommended this product for my Min Pin that had been rubbing her head on the carpet. After the initial week long treatment and then the twice a week maintenance my Min Pin seems to be rubbing her head less. I going to have to check back with the vet to see if perhaps 3 times a week as maintenance would produce better results. All in all my Min Pin seems revealed when she gets this med administered.
