Product Details

Sucralfate is considered a band-aid for the intestinal tract. It is prescribed to help when your pet suffers from gastrointestinal (GI) ulcers.

What is Sucralfate? This is an oral tablet that is used to treat ulcers of the esophagus, stomach, and small intestine.

What are the benefits of Sucralfate?
  • Can be given orally.
  • Provides a coating over ulcers in the GI tract which helps prevents future damage.
  • Can be used as to prevent gastrointestinal ulcers in animals being given aspirin or other NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatories).

Formulated for:multiple species (ex.dogs, cats, and horses).

How is this medication given?Always follow your veterinarians specific instructions. Sucralfate is given by mouth on an empty stomach 1-2 hours prior to food or other medications. Crushing tablets and mixing them with water to make a slurry is the best way to give Sucralfate unless your veterinarian instructs you differently.

Always contact your veterinarian if you have any questions about how to use Sucralfate properly.

How does this medication work?Sucralfate interacts with stomach acids and proteins in order to create a barrier that protects ulcers from further damage.

What results can I expect? Sucralfate should create a coating to protect ulcers in the digestive system in order to prevent further damage from stomach acid and bile. Try not to skip or miss doses as this could result in recurrence or worsening of ulcers. Always call your veterinarian if your pets symptoms are not improving or worsening while be given Sucralfate.
