Product Information

Viokase-V powder is an easy and effective option to manage exocrine pancreatic insufficiency(EPI). Pets with this condition cannot produce enough pancreatic enzymes to digest food properly.

Viokase-V is: a powder that is sprinkled on your pet’s food. It supplies pets who suffer from exocrine pancreatic insufficiency (maldigestion syndrome) with the pancreatic enzymes they need to digest food properly.

What are the benefits?

1.Powder is easy to give mixed in food;2.Can also be used to treat pancreatitis;3.Safe and effective way to supplement pets with EPI with the enzymes needed to improve digestion.

    What outcomes can be expected?

Your pet should have an easier time digesting food once starting Viokase-V. Improvement in your pet's weight, stools, haircoat, etc. can occur but more slowly. Symptoms should resolve over time in most cases. Treatment with Viokase-V is usually chronic and needs to be given for the rest of your pet’s life in most cases.

Who is it for: cats and dogs.

    How is it given?

1.Give Viokase-V exactly as instructed by your veterinarian.

2.Mix the prescribed amount of powder with your pet’s food. Add a little warm water if you feed your pet dry food.

3.Let food stand for 15-20 minutes before offering it to your pet.

4.Feeding small meals daily may be recommended.

5.Contact your veterinarian if you have any questions regarding the use of Viokase-V.

How does it work? Viokase-V contains pancreatic enzymes that pets with EPI cannot produce. These enzymes help to digest fat, protein, and sugars properly.

Viokase-V is available as: a powder formulation.

    Common Brand Name:Viokase-V

Dose and Administration:Follow your veterinarian’s dosing instructions carefully. Mix the prescribed quantity of powder with your pet’s food. It is usually recommended to feed several small meals to your pet daily. A small amount of warm water may be mixed in if Viokase-V is offered with dry food. Allow food to stand for 15-20 minutes prior to serving.

Give Viokase-V only to the animal it has been prescribed for. Call your veterinarian if you have any questions about how to use Viokase-V correctly.

Uses:Viokase-V provides pets suffering from exocrine pancreatic insufficiency (EPI). It can be used in dogs, cats, and sometimes birds. It can also help dogs and cats with pancreatitis and can be used as a remedy for hairballs in cats.

Storage: Store at room temperature out of reach from children and pets.

Possible Side Effects: Diarrhea, cramping, or vomiting may occur sometimes at higher doses. Some pets may experience mouth irritation if Viokase-V is not mixed well with moistened food and allowed to stand. Pets who are truly allergic to Viokase-V can experience an allergic reaction. Inhaling the powder can cause an asthma attack or lung irritation in humans. Skin irritation can also occur. Wash immediately if Viokase-V gets on your skin or your pet's skin. Wash your hands after handling this medication.

Drug and Food Interactions: Discuss all medications and supplements your pet is taking prior to starting Viokase-V. Antacids, cimetidine, and other histamine H2 receptor antagonists may interact or decrease the effectiveness of pancreatic enzymes. Other interactions are possible.
