Product Information

If your pet suffers from atopic dermatitis , Cyclosporine may be helpful when used as directed by your veterinarian.

Cyclosporine is: a generic medication that suppresses the immune system. It is prescribed by veterinarians in order to treat atopic dermatitis which is a chronic inflammation of the skin that can cause scratching, itching, and skin infections. It can also be used to treat some immune mediated diseases, anal fistulas in dogs, and asthma in cats.

What are the benefits?

1.Oral medication that can be given at home;2.Treats atopic dermatitis and some other disease of the immune system;3.Effective generic alternative to Atopica.

    What outcomes can be expected?

It can take up to several weeks in order to see optimal results. Symptoms can recur or worsen if medication is discontinued abruptly or if doses are skipped. Your pet’s problems may be controlled with a lower dose over time as supervised by your veterinarian.

Who is it for: dogs and cats.

    How is it given?

    1. Give this medication without food unless directed otherwise.

    2. Do not open the capsules and sprinkle contents on food because Cyclosporine is very bitter.

    3. Follow your veterinarian’s prescribed instructions precisely. Always contact your veterinarian if you are unsure of how to use this medication correctly.

How does it work? Cyclosporine suppresses the action of targeted cells in the immune system.

Cyclosporine is available as: a capsule that is given by mouth.

    Generic Name:Cyclosporine(Common Drug Name)

Common Brand Name:Sandimmune (human), Neoral (human), Atopica (veterinary)

Dose and Administration:Use exactly as prescribed by your veterinarian. Give on an empty stomach unless your veterinarian instructs you otherwise. Do not open capsules and sprinkle contents on food.

Never stop medication without being instructed to. If you skip a dose, give it as soon as you remember but never double dose. Only give this medication to the pet it has been prescribed for.

Uses:Cyclosporine can be used to treat atopic dermatitis and some other immune-mediated diseases. It can also help with anal fistulas in dogs and asthma in cats. It can also be used to prevent rejection after organ transplantation.

Storage:Store only at room temperature away from pets and children.

Possible Side Effects: Gastrointestinal side effects such as loss of appetite, vomiting, and diarrhea have been reported. Muscle cramps, shedding, increased hair growth, or gum overgrowth can occur but are less common.

Immune system suppression may occur at higher doses making it easier to get an infection. Symptoms of infection include fever (over 103°F), lethargy, painful urination, sneezing, coughing, or runny eyes.

Some pets can be truly allergic to this medication. If your pet seems sick or you think he/she is experiencing an allergic reaction, contact your veterinarian promptly.

Precautions:Do not give Cyclosporine to animals who are allergic to it or similar ingredients.

This medication should be used with extreme caution in pets with kidney or liver disease and should not be used in pets with malignant cancer.

Avoid use in breeding or pregnant animals unless otherwise directed. Use milk replacer in puppies/kittens if the mother is receiving cyclosporine after giving colostrum.

Drug and Food Interactions: Multiple medications and supplements may interact with Cyclosporine including NSAID’s and corticosteroids. Other interactions may occur. Always tell your veterinarian about all medications and supplements your pet is taking.

A prescription from your veterinarian is required to purchase Cyclosporine.
