Product Details

What is Iverhart Plus? Iverhart Plus is a chewable medication that is given monthly or as directed by your veterinarian. It acts as a heartworm preventative and as a dewormer so it works to control and treat common intestinal parasites (roundworms and hookworms) in addition to providing adequate protection against heartworms. Tablets are flavored with pork and liver. This is a generic alternative to Heartgard Plus.

Formulated for: Dogs and puppies can take this medication but the need to be over 6 weeks of age before initiating treatment. You can give Iverhart Plus to pregnant/breeding females.

How is this medication given? Give Iverhart Plus to your dog once a month (every 30 days) or as directed by your veterinarian. Give this medication orally (by mouth). Tablets can be chewed as a treat, crumbled in food, or given whole directly into your dogs mouth. Each dose should be given on the same day every month. Always watch your dog carefully after giving each dose of medication to make sure the entire tablet has been swallowed. If your dog spits out a dose of medication, go ahead and give another dose as soon as possible. Iverhart Plus can be given every month of the year or seasonally during mosquito season depending on the recommendation of your veterinarian. If you use this medication seasonally, give the first dose within 30 days of your dog's first exposure to mosquitoes. The last dose should be given within 30 days after the last exposure to mosquitoes. Each monthly dose is effective in killing parasites your dog was exposed to in the previous month. If using this medication seasonally, heartworm testing may be necessary before giving a new dose to make sure your dog can take this medication safely. Your veterinarian will let you know how often heartworm testing should be performed. The proper dose of medication is based on your dogs body weight. Your veterinarian will provide you with the proper instructions on how to use this medication. Do not split tablets and remember to give this medication only to the pet for which it was prescribed for. Contact your veterinarian with further questions regarding the use of this medication.

How does this medication work? Iverhart Plus works due to the action of Ivermectin and pyrantel pamoate which are the primary ingredients in this medication. Ivermectin causes paralysis and eventual death of heartworm larvae (Dirofilaria immitus) before adult heartworms have the chance to develop. Pyrantel pamoate also works by causing paralysis and eventual death of susceptible parasites. This ingredient is effective against hookworms(Ancylostoma caninum, A. brasiliense, Uncinaria stenocephala) and roundworms(Toxocara canis, Toxascaris leonina).

What results can I expect? Each tablet kills heartworm larvae that your dog was exposed to in the preceding month. This medication also protects your dog from common intestinal parasites (hookworms and roundworms).

What Form(s) does Iverhart Plus come in? Iverhart Plus comes in tablet form. Tablets are flavored and chewable. This size of medication can be administered safely to dogs weighing 26-50 lbs.

Use every month. Prevents heartworms. Simple as that. This is a good alternative to the higher priced Heartgard Plus.
