Product Details

Pancrezyme Tablets For Dogs and Cats are a supplemental tablet form of pancreatic enzymes for cases of pancreatic enzyme deficiency. This formula is FDA-approved for use in dogs and cats.

Pancreatic enzymes are normally produced by the pancreas and are needed to help digest and absorb fats, proteins, and carbohydrates. In pancreatic insufficiency, these enzymes are not produced in sufficient quantity.

No one regimen will be successful for every patient. The above dosage should be adjusted according to the severity of the pancreatic exocrine deficiency and weight of the animal. In cases of chronic insufficiency, the dosage should be increased until desired results are obtained.

Each 2.8 grams (1 teaspoonful) contains sufficient pancreatic enzymes to digest (in vitro): 260g fat, 388g protein, 460g starch.

Adult dogs: The average dose is 2-3 tablets with each meal.

Adult cats: 1/2-1 tablet with each meal.

Precautions: Discontinue use in animals with symptoms of sensitivity. See package insert for additional precautions

Comments about Pancrezyme Tablets For Dogs and Cats:

I recently adopted a Collie mix with Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency (EPI). When the adoption agency finally received and shared the diagnosis, I was worried this would be a tough and expensive condition to treat for the remainder of her life. I couldn't have been more wrong (so far)!

There are powder forms of this medicine available that rely on pet owners to dose accurately, but these tablets make it so much easier. For best results, administer by crushing the tablets and mixing the powder into their food. Let the mixture sit for 10-20 minutes, then feed. I recommend against giving whole tablets, as other reviews have suggested. Pancreatic enzymes have the potential to cause sores in the mouth if not properly absorbed into their food at feeding time. Plus, crushing them will help ensure proper absorption into their digestive system.

Feed meals twice a day, as it's easier for EPI dogs to digest two or three smaller meals, rather than one large meal. You will know you're doing it right when their stools become smaller in volume and solid, rather than big, squishy poops. Of course, dosage and treatment will vary depending on your dog's breed, weight and the type/severity of their condition.

I am somewhat concerned about the sourcing of these enzymes. All I know is that it is sourced from bovine and swine pancreases. Who knows what conditions these animals were exposed to before being turned into food and medicine? I suppose the same can be said for human food, so I will let that go. My hope is that one day, organic and humane becomes the rule and not the exception.

Buying this medicine at Pet360 has been the most cost-effective and reliable way that I can find. There are websites and forums out there with groups dedicated to EPI research and awareness. They will help you with proper food choices and provide other helpful tips for managing EPI. At the end of the day, each case is unique and you will figure out what is best for your furry friend. Listen to your vet (second opinions don't hurt), be attentive to your dogs' reactions and do your research! Your dog and your wallet will thank you.

Comments about Pancrezyme Tablets For Dogs and Cats:

Much much cheaper than the powder. We were afraid we were going to have to put our pet down. This product literally saved her live. We live on a fixed income and could not afford the $250 a month powdered formula. Cost 1/10 of the powder.

These are a good value compared to the mark up the vet was putting on them. They are also the exact same thing I was getting from the vet, same color, same texture, and stamped with the same number.

Comments about Pancrezyme Tablets For Dogs and Cats:

I give our German Shepherd, Max, two or three tablets 20 minutes before feeding, twice a day. So, if you are used to feeding once a day, I recommend splitting that up into two feedings. If your dog doesn't like the tablets, maybe you could crush them up and put them into a treat. For Max, he eats them right out of my hand. The tablets are much more cost effective than the powder which I have never had to use.
