Product Details

Your pet will recover from infection faster when you give him/her Baytril Taste Tabs! Baytril is an antibiotic that your veterinarian may prescribe in order to treat susceptible bacterial infections of various body systems including the urinary tract, prostate, lungs, and liver.

What is Baytril? Baytril is an oral antibiotic that is used to treat susceptible bacterial infections of the urinary tract, prostate, liver, GI tract, and other body systems. It is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic that is available as a flavored tablet.

Formulated for: Baytril can be given to cats and dogs. Use should generally be avoided in younger dogs during their rapid growth phase which is approximately 2 to 8 months in small to medium breeds, 2 to 12 months in large dogs, and 2 to 18 months in giant breeds. Your veterinarian will determine whether the benefits outweigh the risks in younger patients.

How is this medication given? This medication is given orally (by mouth). Baytril Taste Tabs can be given every 24 hours (once a day) or the dose can be split and given every 12 hours (twice daily). The correct dose and dosing frequency will be determined by your veterinarian so always follow his/her instructions.

Make sure your pet has unlimited access to water while taking this medication. Do not give Baytril Taste Tabs within two hours of giving dairy products.

If you have difficulty giving your pet this medication, contact your veterinarian for further instructions. Make sure you complete the entire course of antibiotics even if your pet appears to feel better before the entire regimen is complete. If the entire course of treatment is not given, infections can recur or worsen.

How does this medication work? Baytril is an antibiotic in the fluoroquinolone family. Fluoroquinolone antibiotics work by blocking the bacteria's ability to make DNA. This results in death of susceptible bacteria.

What results can I expect? Baytril is absorbed from the intestinal tract into the bloodstream. It ultimately settles in the affected body system where it works to kill susceptible bacteria. This medication needs to be given for several days in order to achieve optimal results. If doses are missed or if treatment is stopped before the regimen is completed, infection may recur or worsen.

If your pet suffers from a bacterial infection that is susceptible to Baytril, he/she should start to feel better. Let your veterinarian know if your animal's condition worsens or does not improve after beginning treatment with Baytril.

What Form(s) does Baytril come in? Baytril is available as a tablet. Tablets come in 22.7 mg, 68 mg, and 136 mg strengths. This medication is for oral use only (given by mouth).

Generic Name: Enrofloxacin (Common Drug Name)

Common Brand Name: Baytril (Bayer)

Dose and Administration: Baytril tablets should be administered orally (by mouth). Tablets can be given once daily or split into two daily doses. Your veterinarian will determine the dose and dosing frequency that is best for your pet. Always follow your veterinarians instructions.

Provide plenty of fresh water for your pet to drink while he/she is taking this medication. It is advised that dairy products be avoided within two hours of giving this medication.

Most dogs will consume Baytril Taste Tabs willingly when offered by hand. Alternatively, the tablet(s) may be offered in food or directly into your dogs mouth as with other oral tablet medications. It is recommended to directly pill cats with Baytril Taste Tabs. After administration, watch the animal closely to be certain the entire dose has been consumed.
