Product Information

What is Baytril? Baytril is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic that is used to treat susceptible infections. Tablets are flavored. This medication is most commonly prescribed to treat infections of the urinary tract, prostate, liver, GI tract, liver, lungs, and other body systems.

Baytril is formulated for: dogs and cats. It is recommended to avoid Baytril in younger dogs during their rapid growth phase, approximately 2 to 8 months in small to medium breeds, 2 to 12 months in large dogs, and 2 to 18 months in giant breeds.

What are the benefits of Baytril? Baytril has the ability to treat infections in multiple body systems. It kills susceptible bacteria which help to make your pet feel better. Tablets are scored, chewable, and palatable making them easy to administer as directed by your veterinarian.

How does Baytril work? Baytril is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic. This class of antibiotics block the bacteria's ability to make DNA, resulting in death of the bacteria.

How is Baytril administered? Baytril tablets are given by mouth (orally).Baytril Taste Tabs can be given as one single daily dose or split into two daily doses. Your veterinarian will provide you with the proper instructions so always follow his/her directions.

Provide plenty of fresh water for your pet to drink. If possible, Baytril should NOT be given with food. Do not give within two hours of giving dairy products.

If you have difficulty giving the medication to your pet, contact your veterinarian. Use all of the medication prescribed, even if your pet appears well. If the entire course of treatment is not given, the infection may recur or worsen.

What results can I expect? When Baytril is ingested, it is absorbed from the intestinal tract and is carried by the bloodstream to the affected body system where it works to kill susceptible bacteria. Baytril needs to be given multiple days in a row in order to be effective. If doses are missed or the entire treatment regimen is not completed, the infection could recur or worsen.

Baytril should help your pet to feel better if he/she suffers from susceptible bacteria. Consult your veterinarian if your animal's condition does not improve or worsens after beginning treatment with Baytril.

What Form(s) does Bayril come in? Baytril is a tablet that is given orally (by mouth). Tablets are available in 22.7 mg, 68 mg, and 136 mg strengths.
