Product Information

Your veterinarian will prescribe Ketoconazole to your pet when he/she is suffering from a severe fungal infection.
Ketoconazole is: a generic medication that is given by mouth in order to treat serious fungal infections, some yeast infections, and some dermatophyte (ringworm) infections.

What are the benefits?

1.Effective generic alternative;2. Treats severe internal and external fungal infections plus some yeast and ringworm infections;3.Can be useful in the management of Cushing's Disease (hyperadrenocorticism)

    What outcomes can be expected?

Complete resolution of fungal or yeast infections may not occur for a number of weeks but some improvement in your pet’s clinical symptoms may be seen within 1-2 weeks. Symptoms may recur or worsen if the entire course of medication is not completed so always give the entire prescribed course of treatment unless your veterinarian instructs you otherwise. Always call your veterinarian if your animal's condition does not improve or if it worsens while receiving treatment with Ketoconazole.

Who is it for: Dogs, birds, reptiles, ferrets, rabbits, and other small mammals. Use may be risky in cats because there is a higher risk of toxicity in felines.

    How is it given?

1.This medication is given by mouth according to your veterinarian’s precise instructions.

2.Always contact your veterinarian if you are unsure of how to give Ketoconazole correctly.

3.Give this medication only to the pet it has been prescribed for.

How does it work? Ketoconazole targets the cell membrane of the fungus or yeast. This inhibits growth which eventually leads to the death of susceptible organisms. This medication can also work to block the production of corticosteroids by the adrenal gland so it can be effective in the treatment of Cushing's disease.

Ketoconazole is available as: a tablet.
