    Description

Help your cat suffering from hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid gland) with Methimazole. This medication helps control the condition which should help your cat to find relief from symptoms of thyroid disease so he/she can feel better.

What is Methimazole? A tablet that is given primarily to cats in order to control hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid gland). It is given orally (by mouth) as directed by your veterinarian. This medication is not a cure for the disease. It will, however, help to control the condition which should help minimize your cats symptoms.

Formulated for: dogs and cats but is used by veterinarians most commonly to treat hyperthyroidism in cats.

What results can I expect? Methimazole should help to decrease your hyperthyroid cats level of thyroid hormone. This should help to reduce your cats hyperthyroid symptoms including vomiting and weight loss. This should help your cat to feel better. It can take 1-4 weeks to see a decrease in the level of thyroid hormone produced by the body. This medication does not cure hyperthyroidism but it should help to control the condition and minimize symptoms. This medication usually needs to be given for your cat's lifetime in order to optimally control the disease.

What Form(s) does Methimazole come in? This medication comes in tablets that are given by mouth (orally).

    Generic Name: Methimazole

    Common Brand Name: Tapazole

Dose and Administration: This medication is given orally (by mouth). It is commonly given twice daily or every twelve hours although the exact dose and dosing frequency for your pet will be determined by your veterinarian. Always follow your veterinarians precise instructions regarding the use of Methimazole. If you do not understand the directions on the label, ask your veterinarian to explain them to you. The dose may be adjusted based on your pets response to treatment and based on thyroid monitoring. Once your pet starts Methimazole, he/she will likely need to remain on the medication for the rest of his/her life in order to control hyperthyroidism. The goal is to use the lowest amount of medication necessary to control the condition. Methimazole can be given with or without food. Allow free access to water while taking this medication. Description

*Please Note: Picture displayed may not depict actual product. Any represented trademarks are property of the respective companies What is Carprofen? Carprofen is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory (NSAID) medication that helps relieve the pain and inflammation that occurs with arthritis in dogs. It also helps bring relief from other joint problems and can help your pet to feel better after surgery. Carprofen is the generic alternative to Rimadyl, Novox, and Vetprofenl. Formulated for: Dogs. The safety of Carprofen in puppies under 6 weeks of age has not been established. Some veterinarians may prescribe for small animals and birds although this medication is labeled for dogs only. Do not use with cats. How is this medication given? Carprofen can be given once a day or it can be split into twice daily dosing. Your veterinarian will determine the dosage of medication and the frequency at which it should be given. Give this medication by mouth (orally). Gastrointestinal upset including vomiting and diarrhea may be minimized if Carprofen is given with food. Carprofen should be given at the lowest dose necessary to help your dog to feel better. You should never administer Carprofen to a pet other than the one for which it has been prescribed for. How does it work? Chemicals in the body called prostaglandins are reduced with Carprofen. Since prostaglandins trigger inflammation, minimizing them helps decrease inflammation and pain that occurs as a result of arthritis, surgery, and other joint conditions. What results can I expect? Symptoms of arthritis include stiffness, trouble walking, and difficulty rising. These symptoms can be relieved with Carprofen although this medication will not cure arthritis since there is no known cure for this chronic condition. Your dog should start to feel better although results vary in each individual. If you discontinue Carprofen you may notice your dogs symptoms returning. What Form(s) does Carprofen come in? scored tablets (caplets).Dose and Administration: Novox is an oral medication that your pet takes by mouth. It can be give one to two times daily but your veterinarian will determine the dose and frequency that is ideal for your dog. Giving Carprofen with food can sometimes help to decrease gastrointestinal upset. If you miss a dose, you should give as soon as you remember. If it is time for the next dose, just skip the dose that you missed so that you do not give two doses at once. Only give Carprofen to the dog for which your veterinarian has prescribed it for. If there are any questions or problems giving your dog this medication, consult your veterinarian immediately. Minimize your dogs arthritis and joint pain and improve his/her quality of life with Carprofen. Possible Side Effects: The most commonly reported side effect is gastrointestinal upset which may result in vomiting, diarrhea, and lack of appetite. Stomach ulcers may also develop and this can cause your dog to have bloody stools, black stools, or constipation in addition to other gastrointestinal signs. Sometimes the kidneys and liver may be affected. Symptoms of kidney problems include increased thirst, increased urination, and changes in the color and smell of your pets urine. If liver problems occur, you may notice jaundice (yellowing of the gums, skin, or eyes). Pale gums, shedding, incoordination, seizures, behavioral changes, and other less common side effects are also possible. If your pet is allergic to this medication, he/she may display symptoms such as facial swelling, hives, scratching, and sudden onset of diarrhea, vomiting, shock, seizures, pale gums, cold limbs, or coma. Contact veterinarian if abnormalities occur.

Generic Name: Robenacoxib(Common Drug Name) Common Brand Name: Onsior(Novartis) Uses: This is an non-steroidal anti-inflammatory(NSAID) medication that is available to relieve acute pain and inflammation due to surgery or musculoskeletal disorders in cats. It can also be used to treat…

    Description

Keep your pet comfortable during and after surgery or when he/she is suffering from orthopedic pain with Onsior. Onsior is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medication(NSAID) that is effective and gentle enough to administer to cats. This medication is the only NSAID that is labeled for cats. It works by staying at the site of inflammation longer than it stays in the bloodstream which makes Onsior a safe and effective option for managing your pets pain and inflammation.

What is Onsior? This is an oral medication (given by mouth). Onsior also comes in an injectable form that can be administered by your veterinarian as necessary. This is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medication(NSAID). It is used to relieve pain and inflammation associated with surgery. It is also used to treat orthopedic pain. In cats, it is labeled to be used short-term(no more than 3 days). It is a specific typed of NSAID called a COXIB. This type of medication targets the COX-2 enzyme that is specifically responsible for causing pain and inflammation. It is a safer option because it also spares the COX-1 enzyme which protects your pets gastrointestinal tract, kidney, and platelet functions. It is an oral medication that your veterinarian can prescribe for your pet as necessary.

Formulated for: Onsior should not be given to cats weighing less than 2.5 kg, dogs less than 3 months of age, or to cats less than 4 months of age.

How is this medication given? Follow your veterinarians precise instructions regarding the use of this medication. The manufacturer recommends dosing this medication at 1 mg/kg. The dose is generally calculated based on your cats body weight. In cats, one tablet should be given once a day at the same time every day for up to 3 days. Cats weighing between 2.5 and 6 kg should be given 1 tablet daily. Cats weighing between 6 and 12 kg need 2 tablets daily. Your veterinarian will determine that correct dose of Onsior for your cat. This medication can be given to your cat without food or with a small amount of food. Tablets should be given whole. Do not divide, break, or crush tablets.

How does this medication work? The active ingredient in Onsior is robenacoxib. This is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory(NSAID) medication that is COX-2 selective and COX-1 sparing. Onsior works by specifically targeting COX-2 enzymes in the body that are responsible for pain and inflammation. The COX-1 enzymes that are present in the gastrointestinal tract, kidneys, and that are responsible for platelet function are spared with this type of NSAID. This should decrease the side effects and risks associated with NSAIDs including gastrointestinal bleeding.Onsior is tissue selective so it has the ability to identify and target painful sites in the body that are inflamed. This medication moves rapidly through the bloodstream and stays longer at the points of inflammation that need relief from pain and swelling.

Precautions: Do not use in animals who have ulcers of the GI tract. Do not use Onsior in animals that are sensitive or allergic to robenacoxib. If your pet has ever had sensitivity to other NSAIDs, use this medication cautiously and weigh risks vs. benefits before using this medication on these patients.Use caution when using this medication in animals with impaired function of the heart, kidneys, or liver. If the patient is dehydrated or has low blood volume or blood pressure, this medication may also be risky. If this medication must be used in these patients, additional monitoring and fluid therapy may be necessary. The safety of this medication has not been established in pregnant or lactating dogs or cats. Safety studies have not been conducted in cats weighing less than 2.5 kg or in cats less than 4 months of age.

Storage: Tablets should be stored at room temperature away from children and pets. Onsior injectable should be refrigerated.

    Description

What is Lactated Ringers Electrolyte Replacement Fluid? Lactated Ringers is an injectable liquid that contains sodium, potassium, and other electrolytes. It is used in situations where rehydration is necessary. Examples of this include shock, decreased oral intake of fluid and food, illness such as kidney disease, and other problems. Lactated Ringers is administered as an injection either under the skin (subcutaneously) or in the vein (intravenously) as directed by your veterinarian. This solution can be given at home as necessary and your veterinarian can teach you the proper administration technique.

Formulated for: cats, dogs, and other species including horses and livestock.

How is this medication given? Lactated Ringers is an injectable liquid that can be given under the skin (subcutaneously) or in the vein (intravenously) as prescribed by your veterinarian. Your veterinarian will determine the proper amount of fluid and route administration that is best for your pet so always follow his/her instructions. If you have trouble giving this medication or if you do not understand the directions, contact your veterinarian. If you forget to give a dose, try to give it as soon as you remember but do not give two doses at once. Your veterinarian may instruct you and teach you how to give Lactated Ringers at home. For proper administration, you will also need a fluid drip set and a needle in addition to the bag of fluids. Your veterinarian will let you know what equipment is necessary. In general, Lactated Ringers can be administered as follows:
    1. Remove the fluid bag and fluid drip set from their protective packaging.
    2. Close the line lock in the middle of the fluid tubing by moving the roller so that it squeezes the tubing. The lock on a new fluid set is usually set to the open position.
    3. The top end of the fluid set has a large, pointed end with a protective cap. Remove this cap, but do not allow it to become contaminated. MAKE SURE IT DOES NOT TOUCH ANYTHING.
    4. Pull off the covering from the exit port on the bottom end of the fluid bag and push the pointed end of the fluid set into the open hole of the fluid bag. Make sure it is seated firmly or it can leak.
    5. Squeeze and release the bulb at the top of the drip set until the bulb chamber is about half full with fluid.
    6. Open the line lock and/or roller on the tubing and then hold or suspend the fluid bag. Fill the fluid line with fluid from the bag until it runs the entire length of the tubing. Be sure that all large air bubbles run out of the tubing.
    7. After the fluid line has been primed, close the lock and move the roller down.
    8. Twist the needle on to the end of the fluid line as clean as possible. Do not contaminate the open end.
    9. Insert the needle and deliver fluid as directed by your veterinarian. Your veterinarian can answer any questions you may have regarding the use of Lactated Ringers. This medication should only be given to the pet for which it was prescribed. Needles and drip sets are also available only when prescribed by a veterinarian.

How does this medication work? It works to restore electrolytes (sodium, chloride, potassium, etc.) in situations where there is a loss of fluid. Lactated Ringers rehydrates the body and helps to maintain proper hydration. Hydration is necessary for normal body function. Electrolyte balance is important for certain actions including muscle contraction and nerve activity.

To apply a dose of Parastar Plus to your dog: hold your dog with one hand and use the other hand to apply the liquid. In order to apply this medication correctly, invert the tube and use the open end to part dogs hair so that you can visualize the skin. Apply the entire contents of the open tube on one spot on your dogs back between the shoulder blades. Make sure to apply the medication directly on your dogs skin and not on the hair coat. Continue to hold your dog for a few seconds to give the solution time to be absorbed. Allow the treated area on your dogs skin to dry(about 24 hours) before bathing your pet or letting your dog swim. When finished, wrap the tube in paper and place it in the trash. Only one applicator per treatment is needed. Repeat applications may be made if necessary but do not apply more than once every 4 weeks. Studies show that Parastar Plus kills fleas for up to 30 days.
