What is Revolution for Puppies and Kittens? Revolution is a medication that is applied on the skin (topical). When It is a preventative medication given every 30 days in order to protect puppies and kittens against heartworms, fleas, and ear mites. It is also effective in preventing and treating roundworms, and hookworms in kittens and sarcoptic mange and American dog tick infestations in puppies.
Formulated for: Revolution is safe and effective in puppies over 6 weeks of age and kittens over 8 weeks of age. This medication is safe to apply to pregnant and nursing animals.
How does this medication work? Revolution contains Selamectin. Selamectin disturbs the nerve transmission of the affected parasite which results in paralysis of the parasites nervous system. This medication targets immature heartworms (Dirofilaria immitis). It is also effective in killing adult fleas (Ctenocephalides felis), preventing flea eggs from hatching for one month, and controlling and treating ear mites (Otodectes cynotis) in both puppies and kittens. Roundworms and hookworms are also controlled and treated in kittens. In puppies, sarcoptic mange and American dog tick infestations are controlled and treated with this product.
What results can I expect? Revolution should kills heartworms in their immature stage. It is effective in providing protection against worms that your pet was exposed to in the preceding month. Fleas are generally killed within 36 hours of application but they may linger especially if the pet was already infested with fleas when Revolution was applied. Ear mites in puppies and kittens are eliminated with one treatment in a number of situations but a second treatment a month later may be necessary for complete elimination. Follow your veterinarians instructions precisely for your pet.

Dose and Administration: The dose of Revolution is based on your pets body weight. Follow your veterinarians instructions regarding topical application of this medication. If you do not understand the directions, ask your veterinarian to explain them to you. Revolution is available as individual doses packed into boxes of 3, 6, and 12. Each tube contains the specific amount of medication for your pet. Do not split the contents of each vial. In order to apply Revolution correctly: Hold each tube upright and press cap down until the cap punctures the top of the tube containing the medication. Part the hair at base of your pets neck and place the tube on the skin at the desired application site. Squeeze the tube 3 or 4 times in one spot until all contents have been emptied. Check to verify that all contents of the tube have been emptied before discarding. Bathing or shampooing should not affect the action of Revolution as long as you wait at least 2 hours after application. If you forget to give a dose of Revolution, give it as soon as you remember. If more than on dose of Revolution has been skipped, always check with your veterinarian before re-starting the medication.
