What is Effipro Topical Solution for Cats? Effipro is a medication that you put on your cats skin on a monthly basis or as directed in order to protect him/her from common ectoparasites. It kills fleas, all stages of 4 species of ticks (brown dog tick, American dog tick, lone star tick, and blacklegged tick), mosquitoes, and chewing lice.
How is this medication given? In order to use Effipro correctly, follow these instructions: Remove one applicator from the packaging and hold it upright. Remove the cap, invert it, and use the cap to push down on applicator in order to puncture it.
Hold your cat in a comfortable position. Part the cats hair on the back between the shoulder blades until you can see the skin. Place the applicator tip directly on the skin and empty all of the solution on one spot between the shoulder blades. Make sure to apply the solution on the skin and not the hair coat.
Apply Effipro once a month or as directed by your veterinarian. Make sure to wait at least 30 days between applications. Dosing is based on your cats body weight. This product remains effective even after bathing, shampooing, water immersion, or sunlight exposure.
How does this medication work? Fipronil is the main ingredient in Effipro that works by attacking the nervous system of the affected insect. It blocks GABA channels which causes tremors, convulsions, and eventual death of the targeted insect.
