My husband is a veterinarian and when our 13 year old cat tested for early kidney disease, we were devastated. We knew this was a ticking time bomb. So he switched her food to another prescription diet and she ate that for 2 & 1/2 years. Her kidneys were tested every 6 months and kept getting worse. One morning this past winter, as I was getting ready for work, something wasn't right. She wasn't following me around like usual and wouldn't come, even for the pop top sound if her canned food! We searched and found her hiding in our closet. Need-less to say, she was terribly dehydrated and her blood phosphorus level was very high. If my "motherly instincts" hadn't been risen, we definitely could have lost her. My husband began doing research and we decided to switch to Royal Canin canned food because it has the lowest phosphorus level among the other options out there. After about 6 weeks on this food, she's happier and healthier and more playful than she was 6 years ago! Thank you for offering a renal diet that's based on current research! He now recommends the Renal diets for his patients as well!

We started slowly switching our cat from Royal Canin Venison/Pea to this Renal Support formula, over a 2 week period. Around the time he was receiving equal portions of each food, he started experiencing horrible, painful diarrhea and was in a great deal of pain. I started looking around online and after reading the description here saw that this food is "only intended for intermittent / supplemental use." That implies that it is not supposed to be fed as the *sole* source of food, permanently. This was not conveyed to us by either of the veterinarians who were involved in prescribing this food, nor does it say anything on the can about being an "intermittent / supplemental" food. My cat has been suffering because of a major defect in labeling by this company: it needs to be written clearly, in the directions on the can, that this is a supplemental food, and not a complete and balanced diet. Until all veterinarians are aware of this and convey it to their patients when prescribing, Royal Canin needs to do the job of informing the consumer that this is a food SUPPLEMENT, not a permanent diet. The only reason I gave 3 stars is because the Venison & Pea Protein has been so good for him, and I am thankful for that.

The only kidney diet my cat likes

By Marti

Comments about Royal Canin Veterinary Diets Royal Canin Veterinary Diet Feline Renal Support E Loaf in Sauce Canned Cat Food:

I tried several kidney prescription foods when my cat was diagnosed and this is the only one she likes. She is always eager to eat it, as opposed to avoiding other kidney diet foods I have tried. Unfortunately this means the other cats in the house also try to eat it.

Comments about Royal Canin Veterinary Diets Royal Canin Veterinary Diet Feline Renal Support E Loaf in Sauce Canned Cat Food:

I was recently told by the vet I need to change my cats diet due to healthy reasons. After the health complications caused weight loss she's starting to put weight back on. So at least I can say the food tastes good.
